He has absolutely no reason to come up here. It would have to be for money and you know we wont spend it.

No, I think were looking at Fassel or Haslett or Billick... actually, its most likely going to be yet another guy that has no playoff HC experience.

How do you know how to get a team to the playoffs if youve never done it?

I would be ok with Billick i could even be fine with Fassel. Haslett to be honest if wasn't going to get it the first time the interviewed him a few years back he most likely will not get it now. Just my opinion though.

Oh i know. He would fit the city and remake the entire attitude of this team. He would kick these guys off the roster who are just showing up to get a paycheck.

Instant cedibility yes i completely agree with. Instant success i would say no. Here is why.

It would take Cowher a minimum of 2 years to mold this team into the type of team he wants. But i would be willing to wait for him to improve this team. He would have to get rid of all the check collectors on the team and bring in his kind of guys.

The sad reality. It won't happen as i just mentioned Ralph won't relinquish that much cash or control (as cowher would want to be GM as well) to one man. Ralphie wants to play meddler with this team instead of STFU and sitting back and watching football.

I would also not mind Billick. I would want him to bring in a O-Cord with half a brain but baby steps. Until ralphie proves me wrong i will expect him to being doing his coach shopping at Big Lots this offseason.

Here's an older story:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2007/01/04/cowher-steelers.html

Cowher, if he coaches again, has signalled he wants to be one of the league's highest-paid coaches. His current $4 million-plus US salary is about half that of Mike Holmgren, whose Seahawks lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl last season. The Steelers have given no indication they are willing to pay any coach an $8 million salary.
Jauron makes $1.5 mil a season.

This may sound cold and callous, but all we could hope for is for Ralph to die and Jimbo and his mystery consortium to buy the Bills and hire The Chin.

As a lifelong Bills fan, I'm used to masochistic, unrealistic dreaming, so I know that there is no way that this could come true.

I think I'll just step away from the computer and beat my head with a ball peen hammer, or squeeze my testicles with a nutcracker, just to validate my status as a lifelong Bills fan....

50. He's used to coaching in the cold weather.
49. He's had 15 years of HC experience
48. In 9 out of those 15 years, he had an offense ranked in the top half of the leauge.
47. In 7 out of the 15 years he had a TOP 5 DEFENSE!
46. 9 Division championships
45. Hard work emphasis
44. Blue collar background
43. Former LB (hard headed)
42. Attitude
41. No- nonsence
40. A super bowl VICTORY
39. 2 conference championships
38. Ability to bring in good players.
37. His daughter's a stud bball player.
36. He likes Buffalo, he defends them on CBS and loves to talk about our "scrappy" attitude.
35. His nickname is "The Chin" (how freakin awesome is that!!!???)
34. He actually gets mad and shows emotion.
33. Learned under Marty Ball
32. His first year as a coach in Pittsburg he took a 7-9 team and took them to the AFC playoffs WITH HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE.
31. A winning playoff record!!! PLAYOFF EXPERIENCE IN GENERAL
30. led his team to the playoffs in each of his first six seasons as head coach (only 2 coaches have done that)
29. He is one of only six coaches in NFL history to claim at least seven division titles.
28. In 1995, at age 38, he became the youngest coach to lead his team to a Super Bowl
27. At the conclusion of the 2005 season, the Pittsburgh Steelers had the best record of any team in the National Football League since Cowher was hired as head coach.
26. 161-99-1 including playoff games is his record
25. He wants a job near his home, considered Cleveland (Buffalo isn't that much further)
24. Loves the cold weather and snow.
23. His first ever playoff appearance, he lost to the Bills. (cooincidence?)
22. Ralph needs someone who can win now. (he won't be around many more years, so he needs immediate success.)
21. He has ties to Bellichick (declining the Cleveland job that Belicheat took)
20. Coached over Mularky, Mularky left Pitt to come to Buffalo.
19. 10 out of 15 years, he went to the playoffs.
18. Ralph would get along with Cowher.
17. Cowher would be a hero amongst the Bills fans.
16. With a solid core of young players, Cowher could enjoy possible instant success.
15. BILL Cowher HC of the BILLS, it just makes sense.
14. Cowher could have full power over this team if he wanted. That's how bad off we are.
13. Cowher loves hard nose, run it down your throats and kick your ass on defense football.
12. The Bills have a solid young QB in Edwards, which Cowher has said he loves Trent and that he believes Trent will be good.
11. Last year, many news outlets thought we would pursue Bill, if the Bad start continued (ex: aol sports, SI.)
10. an espn fan nation member was quoted saying "who would Bill Cowher most likely coach? Buffalo - Great fit, Marv doesnt want any responsibility anyway. Unfortunately, Jauron could return and Wilson needs to pinch the worlds largest penny collection"
9. We got 78 million from the Toronto deal... just sayin... spend it on a good coach!!!!
8. The Bills don't always go after complete losers. They went after Mike Sherman before Jauron. Bill Cowher is available at a price.
7. I'm calling Tim Graham to ask him to spread a rumor that Cowher is interested in the Bills. (yes, I have Tim's number. I network.)
6. He is a proven winner.
5. He doesn't build teams, he coaches them the perfect example being Pittsburg, he inherited a young solid core of players and coached the hell out of them, adding quality players to keep competitive.
4. Paladin Warrior backs me on this.
3. Having Cowher would make OP smile.
2. Buffalo needs a HOF coach like Cowher to help bring us back to the early 90's way of things.
1. He's one of the best, if not the best, option out there.

TAKE THE 78 MILL YOU GOT FROM SELLING THIS TEAM OUT RALPH AND FINALLY DO SOMETHING FOR THE TEAM AND NOT JUST YOURSELF!!!!!!

48 and 23 aren't really that good.

If you could hook it up with some links to the things you mentioned in 11, that would be a bit of alright.

I am so down to have Cowher. I always thought he would be the perfect Buffalo coach. I'll never forget..........(link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_McCarter))

"Bill Cowher Incident McCarter was the referee in a regular season game between the Minnesota Vikings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Vikings) and Pittsburgh Steelers on September 24 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_24), 1995 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995). Just before halftime on a Minnesota field goal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_goal_%28football%29) attempt, line judge Ben Montgomery called a penalty on Pittsburgh for having 12 players on the field, a violation of the rules. Minnesota was able to score a field goal as a result of the penalty. Pittsburgh head coach Bill Cowher counted 11 players on the field, and in disgust, printed a photo to prove that 11 players were on the field. At halftime, Cowher ran by McCarter as they were going to the locker room and shoved a photo in McCarter's shirt pocket to show the referee the evidence. League rules did not allow using photographic evidence to overturn calls. The NFL later agreed that the officials miscalculated the number of Pittsburgh players on the field and fined both McCarter and Montgomery a game's pay, $4,009 and $2,826 respectively. According to the Wall Street Journal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wall_Street_Journal), these were the largest fines ever for an American (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) sports official (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_%28sports%29) [2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_McCarter#cite_note-1). Cowher also was fined $7,500 for his actions."

Seems hiring him would make the Bills more valuable, and more sell-able.

That's nice. But there's 8 million reasons a year why he won't be the next Bills HC.

As much as I would LOVE to see it happen it won't. He would want too much money. If DJ is let go expect to see another recycle coach or some up and coming guy.

He's probably the only guy available that could take complete control of a team and turn it into a winner in a short period of time.

I like Bill Cowher, as unlikely as it is, he is the right man to mold this team into a winner.

Given our history, the best that will happen is that we'll hire a young coordinator cheap, and hope he is head coach matrial - unlike the Williams and Mularkey experiments. We're bound to get one right eventually, aren't we?

We don't need 50 threads about Cowher those two were about the same thing and by the same person, therefor MERGED!

I know this is a Bill Cowher thread but we all know he's not reasonable so I'll go with a comparison of a Cowher and a guy who's a little more reasonable as our next HC in Marty Schoettenheimer. You may be surprised by this info.

Cowher - 149-90-1 career 3 seasons under .500 out of 15...worst record 6-10
In the playoffs - 12-9 AFC title and SB title

Marty - 200-126-1 career 2 seasons under .500 out of 21...worst record 4-12, second worst? 7-9

Playoffs though is where Cowher shines over Marty - 5-13

But as you can see Marty is very capable and realistic option.

Not necessarily.

Marty Ball would be good. but, you want someone who can not only get to the playoffs, but knows how to win those games. Even in cold weather!

just think... "The Chin" coaching in Buffalo.

The guy could easily win us a superbowl within the next two years.

Yeah... I said it.

Yeah, you forgot about the part where Wilson has to write a check.
