Posted by Emma OrnBUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - An article published in the upcoming edition of Western New York Hockey Magazine claims the Sabres are for sale.
Jim Kelley, the magazine's managing editor says owner Tom Golisano is once again actively looking to sell the team.

According to Kelley's sources a potential buyer is Canadian Billionaire Jim Balsillie.
The Balsillie group looked into purchasing the Sabres last season but walked away.

The magazine will be released on Thursday.
We'll continue to follow this story throughout the day on News 4 and on wivb.com.

I did just read this

The Western New York Hockey magazine article adds that a deal could be struck where the Sabres play part of their home schedule at Hamilton's Copps Coliseum.

UN ****ING BELIEVABLE. We are getting raped. I am assuming "part" of the schedule will be more than 1 game..... Why would they want to play in that **** HOLE Copps Coliseum...

Im hearing all over Golisano is looking to flat out get RID of the team, period.

That would explain why he doesn't care that they suck.

At least Baiselle sounds like he would care...even if he played a couple games in Hamilton.

This has been known for over a year. He said he was listening to offers last year. It appears to be getting a bit more serious now.

He is minority owner so I doubt it unless he sells his share.

**** Golisano.

He just wanted a quick buck.
I'm not sure how hes not making money, the Sabres have their own clothing line out now and have another jersey on the market...

This is ****ed.

He was never a hockey guy and let Quinn run all the hockey and you all see where that got us...He was there when the Sabres needed him most...good luck to him, Hockey is just not his thing...

I just don't understand how he could not enjoy all the excitement in Buffalo that the Sabres created back a couple of years ago. You would think he would want to recreate that instead of worrying about losing a couple of bucks.

There's been a bit of talk about Balsillie bringing a second team to Toronto ....

Great. The two professional franchises that I care about the most are both up in the air. I can only hope that whoever purchases the Sabres keeps the majority of the franchise together but it willing to spend some more $$.

Larry Quinn denies everything per WGR. Says not true, and that playing games outside of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Buffalo</st1:place></st1:City> is “out of the question”<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

And do what? Flip them for another buck? Not spend up to the cap? Sit back and let others run the show? That doesn't sound like much improvement.

The only good that would come out of Tom G. buying the Bills is if he was investing his money but letting someone like Jim Kelly actually handle the day to day business of ownership.

With the Bills we need to take what we can get to save the team in the city.

A NFL owner is not allowed to own another pro franchise in the same city rule might be the reason for the sale. Tom G. might be setting himself up for the big move.

That is not the rule Skooby.
The rule is they cannot own another sports franchise in a different city. They are allowed to own 2 in the same city.

If Quinn is denying it, it must be true.

How can you tell if Larry Quinn is lying?

****! Why the hell do we have to share all our sports teams? What's wrong with us supporting them? Both the HSBC Arena and Ralph Wilson Stadium are getting sold out each game and they are making lots of money on merchandise. This is getting ridiculous now! :curse:

WGRZ 2 on your side has contacted the NHL offices Colin Campbell says that if this was true, which it's not they will never approve a deal to have Basille as owner of any NHL team. The National Hockey League and the other owners from the 29 other teams have to vote on it and he would never get enough votes to pass.

Basille almost bought the Nashville Predators that deal fell through because he wanted to move the team to Hamilton.

Bettman has said that there's not going to be an expansion team or no team is moving. The Sabres are safe in Buffalo for the seeable future.

Although I do beleive that other owners do not like Basille.

I am interestedin who leaked this story and why it was leaked now.

Is it somebody with the Sabres trying to guage interest? Is it somebody with Basille looking to piss people off after being shot down? Somebody else for some other reason? Is the story 100% true?

Sometimes the back story is more interesting than the oen reported.

But really.. if Golisano did trade ownership somehow.. I could definitely see him going for the Bills.

Think about it.. we havent done **** as a franchise since the early 90's (bills).. and this season we sold out every home game.

When Golly looks at that he sees $$$$$$$$ all over the place. Obviously, a bigger profit than owning the Sabres. I wonder if Hamister will come back into the picture.. even though he did **** things up last time by giving us false hopes..

THATHURMANATOR
