COWHER - for both coach and GM. Will put fans in the seats and wins in the win column. He is the only one I want.

My number 1 pick is Cowher, there is no doubt about it.

But we wont offer the most money. The Bills are classically a Cowher type team and he may see us as the best chance to get success if he thinks we arent that far away. But we have no ties that I know of to him, he has no reason to want to leave where he lives, and wont offer the most money.

So then what? Billick, maybe even Fassel still makes sense.

As unrealistic as it probably is, I agree..

I wanted April when they brought in Jauron.. and while I still think he may turn out to be a good HC, when you've got a guy like Cowher floating around out there, you just have to pull the trigger..

I don't particularly like Bilick, but he's definitely got the pedigree.

The one thing that keeps Cowher in play (at least in my overly optimistic mind) is that maybe Ralph would look at the hire as a way to break even or get even in some way for the Donahoe and Mularkey debacles..

Cowher never lost a team, ever. He always told his players exactly how he felt, if they didn't listen enough he sprayed them to get their attention. When your coach sprays you, you listen.

steve marriucci... love the guy he wouldnt cost alot (which to ralph is the number one thing) and he is great with young QB's (favre, garcia) and he has been to the playoffs multiple times. his time in detroit doesnt count because captain destroyo was there matt millen who controled free agency and the draft.

I'm driving the Brian Billick bandwagon.

I would be ok with April.

Shotty is going to cleveland they want him there and he wants too coach again to prove everyone wrong.

you'd take him over Cowher? Or do you mean he's your #1 realistic choice since there's no way in hell we get Cowher?

QB coaches on most teams make more than what RW is willing to pay a HC.

dude i know you even have the guy on your avatar with bills attire on but you cant seriously think he is coming here?? we wont even call him man, and if we do he either wont answer or will not return the call bro. i love our bills as much as anyone on the forum but reality is that cowher would probably rather stay at cbs than coach the bills. the man can have total control over any team he chooses and he has the pick of any opening there is (honestly there is a couple teams that might fire there coach even if he wasnt that bad if cowher wanted there job) and ralph will not give him the budget nor will he give him the pay. jauron is not going to shell out 3 million a year on a coach, and cowher wouldnt consider coming back to football for less than 8-9 million a year, why do you think he drops the "i am so happy home with my wife and seeing my daughters all the time" stuff?? i dont even think the browns will do it for him cause he doesnt want to play the steelers twice a year, he has already said he doesnt want any part of that rivalry and i am guess that would mean if the bengals let marvin lewis go he wouldnt want cincy either, i think it would have to be the panthers (he lives in north carolina) and they dont have an opening after the season they are having, unless cowher said something to the owner and they got knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, maybe jacksonville because the defense is already stacked with talent and they have a solid running game and backs, or maybe and a long shot beause its on the west coast but the chargers. that team has soooooooo much talent and they would pay him what he wanted but besides those teams i dont see him coming back. seriously though merriman is already SICK!! could you imagine him a year or 2 after cowher got ahold of him!!! he would be the second coming of lawerence taylor for god sake!!!

I agree totally with that... Cowher would not come to Buffalo so everyone needs to get that out of their heads. For a more realistic choice I would like to see Billick come to Buffalo. Hes a firey guy that would be the total opposite of Jauron. He would bring a more dynamic defense that would ACTUALLY TAKE RISKS instead of just let opposing teams control the ball the entire length of the field (Is it just me or does it seem like the Bills just sit back on 3rd down and play soft coverage hoping for a dropped pass...??) . I know he was known before Baltimore as an offensive guy and we really dont know how much was the great defensive players he had, but he had to of learned something. He was involved in drawing up the gameplans for the games which involved bringing the heat on the opposing teams. Billick seems to be the guy that will get in your face and show some emotion on the sideline. This would be my choice pretty much for the fact that he would be the complete opposite of Jauron.

yeah...yet another unproved guy and this time one who doesn't even work with an offense or defense. That would be brilliant at least as a marketing move!

You know....Paul Vosburgh is entering his 18th year at St. John's Fisher and has been one of the elite coaches in recent years. And they are coing off an ECAC title too...Just saying...

I'm surprised no one else caught this but towards the end of that segment, Mort also said that Jauron had "definitely" signed the contract extension but despite that, Ralph may still have to fire him.

Trying to find a link - but no luck so far.

Looking at this thing realistically (that is, recognizing that Ralph is not going to pay for a big time, successful coach), April is our best bet. He should be very familiar with our strengths and weaknesses, and therefore should be a bis help in reshaping the roster. I also think he has our players' respect.

He'll draft 5 return specialists, a long snapper, and a tiny, superfast hybrid LB.

Bill Cowher is the clear cut #1 option, but he's also a total pipe dream. The fact that Ralph is going to have to pay Jauron for another 3 years regardless, only decreases the non-existent chance of us spending the money it would take to bring in a big time coach.

My first choice would be Marty, but that's probably a dream now too. I would imagine all things being equal though, that he'd rather coach in Buffalo then Cleveland, so who knows.

I really don't understand the desire some have for Billick. The Ravens looked aweful last year and seemed to be even less talented this year, but look what they have done with a rookie head coach. Billick had the fortune of having Ozzie Newsome build him a monster defense that carried all his teams. Billick was supposed to be an offensive guy yet the Ravens could never do anything on offense in the decade that he was there. Even his SB team wasn't that good. They went something like four games in a row without even scoring an offensive TD. That defense would have always been awesome, so I don't think Billick really had that much to do with their success. I know he won a SB, but so did Switzer.

Some of my realistic guesses would be:

Bobby April for all the obvious reasons already discussed.

Mike Sherman, because he's the guy that RW originally favored over Jauron, but Marv wanted Jauron.

Ted Cotrell, because he was always a popular guy in Buffalo and he'll come super cheap.

I'm not in love with Billick either. He was hired in Baltimore because he was a "great" offensive coordinator in Minnesota. The Ravens' O was never stout under his watch - although they were efficient and did have some decent players - but the defense was just ridiculous.

Cowher is my obvious first choice as well, but I doubt we out-bid everybody. Even if we do, I don't know if we're his first choice. I wouldn't mind Marty either. As for rookies, I do like Spagnula like some others around here. I'm also a big fan of Russ Grimm.

Cowher is not coming, even if we outbid everyone else. Period.

This is a guy who had been a coach of his home town, walked out on his own, and basically waits for a perfect plum.

Let's face it. No matter how much you love the Bills, it is not a marquee team, not a glamous job (in NFL). For someone in Cowher's position, it's a pipe dream.

If you think how the Steelers organization think of the Bills, look at the example of Donahoe. Ralph has to agree to give him total control, including presidency, before he came aboard. And Donahoe was a total farce - I said so at the time he was hired.

Think, instead, the Arizona Cardinals, the Tampa Bay Bucs. The Bills' best chance is to get someone desperate to be a HC, especially those first timer who's dying for a chance.

Are you mad? This guy has no head coaching experience and was canned by San Diego earlier this season and has yet to resurface anywhere. I thought for sure he'd end up reunited with Wade Phillips when he canned his DC but when that didn't happen that spoke volumes to me about how "good" a coach he is.

I never said I wanted him, just throwing it out there as a possibility. Come on, would you really put it past this team to make a hire like that? He'd come dirt cheap and would be willing to accept any meddling from above.
