    Falcons won't give up Rossum

Green Bay - The Green Bay Packers attempted to reacquire return specialist Allen Rossum last month, but the Atlanta Falcons wouldn't part with him.

Rossum, 27, left the Packers as an unrestricted free agent on March 11, 2002, signing a three-year, $3 million contract with Atlanta. The Packers discussed a trade for Rossum before and during the draft.

"It was all based on if they drafted a returner," Packers vice president of football operations Mark Hatley said. "But they didn't get one, so he's their guy.

"Allen's a good player, and we knew exactly what we had in him. Now we're with (DeAndrew) Rubin and 'Fergy' (Robert Ferguson) and some of those guys."

Rossum, 5 feet 71/2 inches and 178 pounds, ranked eighth in the National Football League last season in punt-return average at 12.0 yards and tied for 25th in kickoff-return average at 22.0.
