Can I just ask this, why do stadiums change their names? It's dumb, if you ask me. Why can't these companies support the teams without forcing them to change the name of their stadium? I've gotta tell you, it doesn't make me want to go out and buy any of these products. I don't think it's a good marketing stragedy. I hate it and I wish they'd stop.

It's smart business. Ralph won't change it because of his ego.

I don't see how it's smart business. I'm not any more inclined to buy any of the things each stadium name now advertises.

Wasn't Pro Player called Joe Robbie stadium? If so, why did it change back then and what's Pro Player? I'm assuming Joe Robbie was a player or an owner.

Celebrity Cruise Stadium? That's aweful and almost as gay as the dolphin colors. Part of me hopes they do go with this name so I can have another reason to laugh but part of me feels it's an embarrassment to all of football not just Miami.

Reggie Roby was their punter... as far as Joe goes, no clue!

I heard Golisano is thinking of changing HBSC to Zone Bucks Arena.

So it was called Joe Roby stadium then, right?

What product or company is Pro Player? I've never heard of it or them before. I hate all these stupid name changes. Between that and all the moving from city to city these teams do, it's annoying and frustrating to follow them. I still get confused where the Rams and Cardinals are now. In my mind, I still have them playing in LA and St. Louis. lol

I think Joe Robbie was an owner wasn't he? Anyway, I actually did read somewhere that they considered talking to Reggie Roby again this season. Apparently the 42 year old still thinks he can punt. I wish I would've posted that link right away but it was a few days ago and I just don't remember where it was.

Joe Robbie was the former owner of the marlins I believe.

Jaded, companies do it because it is a giant advertisement. Advertising does work, as mucha s we like to think it doesn't. Name recognition is big in the minds of many people, be it conscious or subconscious.

Teams do it for the money. THese companies pay up to 60 million or more for the naming rights to the stadium. That's a lot of cash.

If ya'll clicked on the link then ya'lls questions would've been answered. ;)

The stadium, where the Florida Marlins also play, is named for a defunct line of sportswear called Pro Player, which was once part of a bankrupt underwear company, Fruit of the Loom. The stadium originally was named for former Dolphins owner Joe Robbie, who built it with private money. Huizenga bought it and sold the naming rights to Pro Player but has not been receiving money for it since Fruit of the Loom filed for bankruptcy in 2000.

It should've been called Fruit Stadium. It just fits them residents in Miami. :D

Oopps. Sorry, Justa. lol I don't click on links, I just read what's posted. lol

I agree with you though, I think Fruit of the Loom stadium would've been a great name. lol

I don't get it. The Company of Fruit of the Loom paid for the Stadium name but the team wears Victoria secret colors.

Joe Robbie used to own the Phins hes the one that got the stadium built and had it named after him he died shortly after it was completed. Then his family sold the team to Huizenga who decided to sell the name of the stadium to the Hanes company to allow them to promote thier new line of clothing at the time witch was Pro Player apparell.
