The status of Joe Mendes, the Washington Redskins' vice president of football operations, is uncertain as the team nears the completion of its offseason shopping for players. Some club officials believe that Mendes could reach a settlement with Redskins owner Daniel Snyder that would end his tenure in the team's front office, sources said.
No decision had been made as of last night about Mendes' future with the organization, sources said, and no meeting between Mendes and Snyder had been scheduled. But Mendes and Snyder will have to determine whether Mendes, who serves as the team's salary cap expert and handles those contract negotiations not done by Snyder, can continue to operate in the club's front office after Snyder returned to the central role in guiding the Redskins' player moves this offseason.
