My brother knows a guy who has a connection to the folks down at the Ralph. And he hears that there may be an announcement on type of turf that will be used at the stadium this year. Of course, this guy may be full of it. But let’s keep our eyes open.

i read something about it yesterday.

The official word hasn't been made yet, but expect the Bills to announce soon they are installing new, more modern artificial turf at The Ralph. The Bills are going with a product called Astroplay, which more closely resembles natural grass than traditional artificial turf. However, the Bills will be the first team in the NFL to use Astroplay in their stadium.

Astroplay, Astroturf. Isn't Astroturf considered superior by many, and doesn't Chicago have Astroplay?

Is that the stuff that they use in Seattle? That fake grass stuff that's easy on the joints and doesn't soak up water? If so, I hope the Bills get it! Especially since they signed McGahee. I have serious doubts as to how well he'll handle the turf and the cold with his knee injury. I still don't think he was the best choice for a first round pick.

interesting article from last year...

The Buffalo Bills are the latest National Football League (NFL) franchise to make use of AstroPlay®, the latest in advanced synthetic playing surfaces from SOUTHWEST Recreational Industries, Inc.

In August, the Bills covered a 45,490-square foot section of their main practice field in AstroPlay® RR XL. The intent is to evaluate how the surface plays during the inclement Buffalo winters. If the surface passes muster with the team, the Bills will consider installing AstroPlay® at Ralph Wilson Stadium, where the team plays its home games. The field at Ralph Wilson Stadium is presently covered by a SOUTHWEST AstroTurf® surface.

The field that Chicago played on last year (University of Illinois) had astroplay... but wasn't chicago riddled with injuries last season  ? ..was it because of the field?

The Bears played at the University of Illinois last year that has the "flubber" field. Most injuries were caused by poor line play. :snicker:

There is a press conference called for 11AM but I will not be near a radio to hear it.

During the restoration, the Bears played their 2002 season on another SRI Sports field system. This one is an AstroPlay® synthetic turf field owned by the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. With a non-abrasive surface, this specially designed field offers high-performance and dependability. Plus, it looks and plays like real grass. In fact, AstroPlay® is equivalent in performance and ball-bounce to the best natural grass systems in the world. The Illini will continue to host the Bears until the Soldier Field renovations are complete.

They should install the same grass field system as Green Bay. You don'e see it come up in big chunks like most of the other northern cities.

I was listening to WBEE (my local country music station) last night as I was working and on one of the news updates, they reported that the Bills are close to making a decision on a new turf and the Buffalo Bills should be playing on something else this season, other than Astro Turf. :D

Buffalo Bills Choose AstroPlay from SRI Sports

The Buffalo Bills will soon hit the field with a new surface underfoot - state-of-the-art filled turf from SRI Sports, Inc.

AstroPlay was chosen for Ralph Wilson Stadium after an intensive two-year evaluation process, wherein the Bills visited sites, reviewed field studies and consulted other teams. Their research included testing the product last season by installing AstroPlay on half of the practice field.

"The players and coaches loved it (AstroPlay)," said Buffalo Bills President and General Manager Tom Donahoe. He said the team's two most important factors in choosing a field surface were safety and performance under adverse weather conditions.
