An under the radar C in FA

Heres a guy who is an up and comer at C, is 25, and has already become a seasoned vet.

#60, for the Ravens, Jason Brown. Hes 6' 3" 320, out of UNC

Heres a Ravens highlight, watch him play. Hes athletic, has the size, is young, and is good at both pass and run blocking.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Heres a Ravens fan article on him:

This is the type of signing that makes sense to me for this team. It wont cost a fortune and is a solid move for the future too. The kid can play well.

He most certainly can play!...I rather sign him then go after an old Birk or Saturday.

        Thats what Im sayin...

Hes probably cheaper, he has the athletic ability you want, he run and pass blocks.

The only hit I could find is that Flacco was bottom 10 for getting sacked. Hes a rookie, who knows whos fault of that was.

Alright so because Dock hasn't been a good investment so far we should stick with Fowler/Preston at C?

Any player can fail in new surroundings. Even Saturday or Birk could fail here.

By your logic we should never sign anyone.

At least Brown while not as physically gifted or known around the league like Birk and Saturday won't cost a ton of money and lets face it, he's an upgrade over the two garbage C's we already have.

ahahaha bro chill out....i'm just basically pointing out that if the dude's actually good he wouldnt be falling under the radar w/ NFL scouts and that even if he wasn't under the radar there was still no guarantee the dude would be a good fit with us....i'd like to think this guy is a better investment than Dock and i got a feeling w/ the way McClain is running up the middle this season that maybe he would be

I think he was drafted just before or just after Duke Preston in that draft. I wanted us to take him and we ended up taking Preston so that would be awesome if we got him now.

We passed on Brown in the draft for Duke Preston, brown went 2 picks after Preston.

I couldn't believe when we did that.

Look guys, you wont find me saying that we should skip studly talent on this team.

But I look at the list of FA C's and Im not impressed that much.

My arguement isnt that I would ming Saturday or Birk, its that I see Brown as being cheap and having upside. I like the version where we sign Jeff or Matt and then draft a C. But that means we invest alot in the position. Why not think about a guy on the right side of 30, with alot of experience, and someone thats a proven player.

A rookie, could be horrible for a year or more. They need to learn. Giving the reigns to a rookie day one is scary. I like some guys, but none seems to be the Mangold that many covet.

Its not that I want lesser names, its that, at THIS position, with what looks to be out there in FA and the draft, I like this move better.

This guy looks like an up and comer. Your right, he may never become that here. But, hes better right now than Fowler or Preston ever have been, or probably will be. Thats an upgrade.

So, we should never persue another free agent again because Dockerry isn't awesome? He actually isn't that bad at all. A real center will solidify things accross the middle 3 and make Dockerry all the more effective.

Re: An under the radar C in FA

I'd rather go after Brown than Birk or Saturday, much less spend a high draft pick on a center. But my fear is that after coming to Buffalo, he'll start to suck much like Dockery has, as was already alluded to by BillsRock. That still doesn't mean the Bills shouldn't try to sign him.

Re: An under the radar C in FA

Just because Dockery hasn't live up to expectations after a good first year in Buffalo it doesn't mean we should not try to sign anyone else ever. Those type of comments annoy me, someone points out what could be a really good signing for Buffalo and then suddenly the negative rain of comments...

I mean, as someone here said, do you want the team to never sign anyone else just because Dockery didn't have a good season?

Oh, Jason Brown sounds like a really smart pick-up by the way!

he's alright, i like his tenacity... he never gives up, and he'll run down the field through the end of a play.

He's not great in space, but he'll get to the second level, which is more then i can say for our current center.

He'd be an upgrade. i like how you think. definitely worth the 2nd round pick that he'd cost us to sign
