Leodis McKelvin (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=11245), CB, Buffalo Bills (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=buf)

Impatient Buffalo Bills fans -- and let's face it, they have a right to be edgy -- weren't too keen on Leodis McKelvin for much of 2008.
The Bills drafted the cornerback and kick returner 11th overall out of Troy, but he didn't play as if he was much worth it.
McKelvin was beaten for two touchdowns in a Week 7 victory over the San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg). Although he was fielding kicks, he didn't start at cornerback until Week 10 -- and that was only after injuries forced it.
"Leodis, he took a lot of scrutiny early because he really wasn't on the field," Bills safety Donte Whitner (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=9594) said.

Couldn't sucked that bad since he got offered a ride at UB and then got signed as a UDFA.

I have two friends that were offered full scholarships to play for UB, neither of them went though.

I think he and DRC can have a long healthy battle about who is the better CB because they both made plays as rookies.

McKelvin would've had a better season if he was drafted by another team. Same goes for every other player we draft. We turn them into cheerleaders who can't play in bad weather conditions. We baby them by being conservative in everything we do. The only coach here who isn't conservative is April and his units have carried this teams through the years.

I'm almost sure that April told Dick to stay away from his unit and stick his conservatism where the sun don't shine.

Seriously, BFD. He jumped a few routes and is a talented return guy. I want to see a full season before I'm giving this cat too much credit.

Now if we are talking "Emerging Star of the English Language", where can I vote for him as number 1? He's money with verbs.

Coming from a small school like Troy, I guess it should be expected that there'd be a learning curve. I'm very happy with the improvement he made over the course of the season. After another TC and the comfort of having been there before, I agree that Leodis should really establish himself as a top CB next year, not just a top KR.

Let's hope so. We can't afford anymore first round busts!
