Jack Kemp, the former U.S. Housing Secretary and Buffalo Bills quarterback, is undergoing treatment for cancer, according to a statement released by his office today.
Kemp, the former Buffalo-area congressman who ran for vice president in 1996, has been undergoing tests to determine the origin of the disease and the options for continued treatment. The type of cancer being treated is "undetermined," spokeswoman Bona Park said.
"He will continue to serve as chairman of Kemp Partners and plans to remain involved in his business, charitable and politically related activities," she said. "Mr. Kemp and his family are grateful for the thoughts and prayers of friends and appreciate respect for their privacy at this time."
