Height:6'4
Weight:255
40:4.64

Pros:
-Speed
-Size
-Motor
-Athletic

Cons:
-Raw
-Technique
-Run Support
-Hybrid

Overall:
Barwin is an interesting prospect because he is a former Bearcats basketball player along with also being a former TE on the football team. His athleticism is unquestioned as he has both the size and speed that scouts love, he also has a non-stop motor which never lets him quit on a play. Connor Barwin like another former basketball player turned DE from a few years ago (Jamal Anderson, DE, Atlanta Falcons) is extremely raw. This was his first ever year even playing DE. He needs to have a lot of work on his technique specifically in regards to his run defense in order to become more than just pass rush specialist in the NFL. Barwin is one of many prospects who could play in either a 3-4 set or 4-3 system. He'll need to put on weight though in order to be a 4-3 DE.

Stats:
2008-49 Tackles, 14.5 TFL, 11 Sacks, 6 PD, 7 QBH, 3 Blocks
2007-3 Tackles
2006-8 Tackles
2005-2 Tackles

Bowl Stats:

He's not really a "former basketball player." Football was his primary sport. He played on the basketball team for a couple seasons because they were shorthanded, but he was never a full time player.

This kid is a raw talent, yes, but man is he good. To switch to DE from TE and not only get 11 sacks, but to be a factor in every game he played in (except for the Orange Bowl ... dammit  ).... the kid is good. Extremely athletic and smart. He could be a starter down the road.

At this point I dont see him as a sure fire starter, far too raw. He needs to work on his spin, swim, and stutter move, get stronger, and his hand placement to really see starting time. As a pass rush specialist he could be an immediate contributor for somebody.

Not another no namer. I know some big named players don't pan out but I want Orakpo in Round 1!

I'm telling you...he is my pick for someone reaching for him in the 1st rd. Just like Matt Jones was several years ago, just like Brandon Albert jumped up to the 1st rd last year...I think he will be the cinderella candidate this year...

I just don't see it right now imo. Maybe if he stars in the all-star game and in workouts but I see him a 2nd-3rd Round Prospect right now.

You're thinking too rationally. When people shoot up the boards, it is often irrational...

That's very true. We'll have to see I guess.

He is probably my 3rd rated DE in the draft, if he falls to us in the 2nd I really hope we take him. I've seen him make plays in run support because he shoots into the backfield so fast, it forces the RB to make an extra cut.. Very similar player to Brown.

Apparently, scouts are trying to get him to do just that...

"Also, while dynamic University of Cincinnati defensive end Connor Barwin, who led the Big East in sacks last year, has steadfastly said he wants to play defense in the N.F.L., some scouts are trying hard to skew him back to tight end, where he had only enjoyed moderate success during his college career."
