Anyone want to re-evaluate him now?

I remember hearing someone, dont remember who saying he'd be no good for the Bills at DE in Free Agency.

I say bull****.. This kid can play. I now want us to get him.

is he a slow, undersized white guy? If not, forget it because he doesn't "fit the system."

seriously, though, he only has 14.5 career sacks. I only saw pieces of the game and I didn't really watch him, and I know stats don't tell the whole story. But adding another DE who can only get 3 sacks a season won't help this team.

Well, "high motor" is usually used to describe guys who play at the same speed the whole 60 minutes. It's actually a pretty good description for our DE's- they're just as slow on the first snap of a game as they are on the last.

All I can tell you is that I signed him to a free agent deal in Madden the other day and he made a game saving sack so take it for what you want....................

he will be a steal in free agency too. he has only been a full time starter for this season but last year did alot of rotational work for them. he will be a guy that gets spencer johnson money and could end up being a 10 sack a year guy easily!

No, he is a slow black guy.

12. Antonio Smith, Oklahoma State (6-3 3/8, 274)
Had a complete workout at the combine and ran his 40s in 4.99 and 5.05. Had a 33-inch vertical jump, 9-foot long jump, 24 strength lifts and ran 4.80 in the short shuttle. Worked out at his Pro Day, recording times of 4.93 and 5.03 in the 40-yard dash and also did position workouts. Came to Oklahoma State after playing two years in junior college. Had five sacks in 2003. Developing as a pass rusher. Has good quickness and works hard.

K. I dont care how well he played for AZ. AZ plays a 3-4 defense. He's a DE in their scheme. There is a reason 3-4 DEs dont play DE in 4-3 defenses. If the Bills signed Antonio Smith which I guarantee you wont happen (and hope it doesnt) he will be used as a penetrating DT.

The guy is a slow 290 pound DE in a 3-4 and you want him to be an edge rusher in a 4-3? Cmon man....

Well it's not like I'm an expert but Arizona uses the 4-3 defense very often and actually some big plays of Smith came when we was aligned as a prototipical 4-3 defensive end. Actually, if I am not mistaken there were times he was used as the outside linebacker in the 3-4 scheme and that tells me he is more of a outside pass rusher than a defensive tackle. He is not a Chris Canty.

Arizona usually runs a 3-4?

So far in the playoffs they have been switching between 3-4 and 4-3. I didn't follow them that close in the regular season but I think they used to run a 4-3.

Maybe it was that December's streak that made them change their scheme?

Antonio Smith is not used as an edge rusher out of the 3-4 alignment. AZ uses Bertrand Berry, Okeafor, Laboy for that purpose, not Smith. And just because Smith is used as a DE in a 4-3 sometimes (rarely cuz they use Laboy as the DE when they line up in a 4-3) it doesnt mean he can be effective as an every down edge rusher in a cover 2. Thats just not realistic.

Yes. They are almost exclusively a 3-4 team now. They mix in some 4-3.

He runs a 5.0 40. That is slow. He is not an edge rusher that we are looking for. He is a big slow player.

Hybrid. When Wisenhunt got there he wanted to fully convert his team to a 3-4 but he used a Hybrid instead since he had a mixture of different players. Against us they mainly played 3-4 with Dockett and Smith as DEs and Watson at the NT.

But, if you are saying they played a majority in a 3-4, that would mean the Bills beat every team that didn't.

They've been playing a hybrid 3-4/4-3 the last two years under Whizenhunt. In terms of Antonio Smith, I don't forecast him as a good 4-3 DE as not a great pass rusher. If anything he'd be a solid left DE but he might be able to fit in as a DT on this D but rather go after his teammate Bertard Berry to play DE.

Bertard? Is that like a combination of a botard and a ******?

Back to the topic at hand, Smith is 290. The last thing this team needs is another undersized DT.

The Bills need a pass rushing DT and why was thinking Smith might be able to make the transition but again wouldn't count on it.

Isnt that why they gave Spencer Johnson 17 million?

UGH! I wasn't in favor of the Spencer Johnson signing and still think he was a side grade for Larry Tripplett but we're paying him more.
