May 9, 2003 -- The American Bowl, featuring the Jets and Buccaneers in an Aug. 2 preseason game at the Tokyo Dome, will be played in the evening for the first time, the NFL announced yesterday. But Jet fans who aren't making the trip will have to set their alarm clocks for before the rising of the sun.
The Jets will play the Bucs in Tampa Bay's first game since defeating the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII in the 11th American Bowl at 6 p.m. Tokyo time.

Previous games in Tokyo were played on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 in the United States at 5 a.m. Saturday Aug. 2 and then rebroadcast that evening at 8 on ESPN.
