In many respects, it has been business as usual for the Chargers. They conducted a draft, held a rookie orientation and are going through offseason workouts.

But there are moments when the players walk the halls at Chargers Park and realize that everything is not status quo. It's in those instances that they're hit with the reality that general manager John Butler – "Papa Bear," one player called him – is no longer on the prowl.

The Chargers will hold a memorial service at 11 a.m. today at New Venture Christian Fellowship, 4000 Mystra Drive in Oceanside, for Butler, who died last month of complications from lung cancer.

For many of the players Butler brought to San Diego, it will be their first chance to say goodbye to the man who could motivate them with both a growl and a purr.
