All is not necessarily forgiven or forgotten, but the Lions apparently are off the hot seat with the NFL for hiring coach Steve Mariucci without interviewing a minority candidate.

The NFL is concentrating on improving diversity hiring and promotions overall rather than taking harsh disciplinary action against the Lions and team president Matt Millen.

Millen and team vice chairman William Clay Ford Jr. defended the team's hiring practices during a meeting with the league's workplace diversity committee in March. Mariucci was hired in February. The committee hasn't reported its findings.

"I quite frankly think that as a committee, we're still looking at that, and I don't think we're looking at it as much about the Detroit Lions' situation as we're trying to figure out how to make our system better so that we don't get into situations like that again," said Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, a member of the diversity committee.
