TAMPA - Ken Romano wants to switch places with his older sibling.
If for just one day his older brother, Kyle, could experience running and playing with his friends, it would be the greatest day of Ken's life.

Kyle Romano is confined to a wheelchair. His limbs were amputated after a bout of spinal meningitis when he was a baby.

His younger brother described what his perfect day would be in an essay to Bucs Pro Bowl safety John Lynch and his wife, Linda.

Physical limitations haven't stopped Kyle, a Plant High student, from participating in all of his favorite sports, including football and basketball, or from maintaining a 4.0 GPA. For his determination, Kyle Romano was one of many student-athletes honored Thursday at the annual John Lynch Salutes the Stars luncheon at St. Lawrence Catholic Church's Higgins Hall.

Now in its fifth year, the ceremony serves as a platform for recognizing the achievements, scholastically and athletically, of students at Hillsborough and Pinellas County schools.

Romano was one of four recipients of the Disabled Athlete Star of the Year awards, joining Kenjy Asin of Plant High, Ryan Rupp of Riverview High and Kyle Mattina of East Lake High.

This year's Lynch Family Legacy Scholarship winners, who each receive $5,000, are Edward Chapman of Palm Harbor High, Zahirina Natova of Northeast High, East Bay High's Paul Spisak, and Caroline Young of Plant City High
