Not a bad idea to bring in as a #2 WR

ALLEN PARK — Receiver Mike Furrey told reporters in Tampa Bay for Super Bowl XLIII that the Lions have informed him he will be released once the NFL calendar allows it next month.

Speaking to the Detroit News and Free Press, Furrey said Lions general manager Martin Mayhew spent Tuesday “calling the guys they were releasing” and he was one of them.
Personally I think adding a guy like Furrey would be a wise move for this franchise. He is an ideal #2 posession type WR with good speed and hands. He is willing blocker and will work the middle of the field. Only issue is that he suffered a concussion last year and had lingering symptons.

Wow, I guess Detroit is cleaning house. The guy is definitely a capable receiver but hopefully his head is right.

Wes Welker type player. Wouldnt be a bad addition... He had a real big season 2 years ago with more than 100 receptions i think...

how much better than Josh Reed is Mike Furrey? Not enough, IMO.

I never seen Reed with anything close to 100 receptions... Furrey has proven he can be a #2. Reed hasn't. Im not married to the idea of signing Furrey, just saying he would be an upgrade.

He is no better than Josh Reed IMO. It would be a nothing move.

For 1 it was a fluke season in a pass happy offense. The guy is almost 32 years old and coming off 2 injury prone seasons. He is NOTHING.

I wouldn't be pissed to sign the guy but wouldn't be overly excited.

98 receptions actually (which was still very good!)

It may look like we wouldn't get the chance anway. Obviously just guessing but I'd say there's a very good chance he goes to da Bears.

Furrey speculated to land in Chicago

By Chris Brown - Posted January 29th, 2009
With Lions WR Mike Furrey to be released in the coming days, MLive’s Phil Zaroo tried to connect the dots with Furrey speculated to eventually sign with division rival Chicago, where not only is former coach Rod Marinelli now on the staff, but head coach Lovie Smith was on the Rams staff when Furrey was in St. Louis back in 2003.
In addition the Bears are reportedly going to cut ties with Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd.
Furrey took shots at the Lions organization, but not Marinelli. He would be an interesting veteran consideration though for the Bills.

Hell ya, bring him in. I wouldn't mind Shaun McDonald either. Say what you want about Detroit but they've always had pretty good recievers over there.

This guy went from 0 catches to 98 in one year and was given the short end every season after that. He can play and I'd love to see him here.
