NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Could the Buffalo Bills continue to grow their fan base and secure their future in western New York by moving north to Niagara County?

A grassroots campaign is underway to keep the franchise in the region by relocating the team to Niagara County and changing the team's name to the Niagara Bills.

Cafarella says supporters of the Niagara Bills are not trying to lure the franchise away from Buffalo.

Their campaign is sort of a back-up plan for ensuring the team stays in western New York.

Then let them keep their name. The "Niagara" Bills? Pffft.

A stadium in Niagara County wouldn't necessarily be a problem. It's not that much farther from downtown than the current stadium.

But the Niagara Bills? These people are idiots for even suggesting the name change. A lot of people want a new stadium so they could have garnered support, but no one is going to go for the name change.

All a new stadium does is ensure that ticket prices will double. There is nothing wrong with the Ralph and yes i have been there many times. People want to be coddled when they goto games now. Well i like the Ralph and i am against a new stadium at this point in time.

Well this would at least keep me a fan of the franchise. If it were to move to LA, Toronto or elsewhere, I'm gone!

Yeah I guess but why the Niagara Bills? They would be moving like 30 minutes from where they are now.

Jim Kelly pretty much said F' that and he wouldn't want any part if it went down that way.

I'm not a geography major, by any means, but what would moving a few miles do, besides like Tat said, increase ticket prices?

"grassroots effort" means "some people who got disenfranchised and want to pretend they can do something about it. it'll get press for 3 days and then die. and years later you'll see that guy in a bar. 'we're you the one that wanted that niagara bills plan?' then you leave"

i wouldn't be against the development of Niagara falls. i've thought that that is the key to reviving buffalo. The two cities have to stop competing with each other and start helping each other.

at this point I wouldnt even freak out about the team moving there but they must remain the Buffalo Bills.

i wouldn't think it's a big deal to go to Niagara falls. the name should remain the same. i thought kelly had mentioned an idea of a stadium in Niagara.

If Niagara falls could get a stadium, build a few more hotels and start to develop the falls into an attraction as opposed to simply a summertime holiday, the town would be in good shape tourist wise. if they could grow for 5 years with tourist growth, a nice indoor stadium could make hosting a superbowl less ridiculous than it sounds now.

however, with the economic mess of NYS, i don't see where you are getting financing. and even good companies are having trouble getting credit.

just say no to an indoor stadium.

Moving the Bills to Niagara Falls would be a very smart move and a logical way to keep them in WNY. Closer to Ontario...closer to Toronto and still in WNY...makes sense to me. Ehhh, to the name change.

You will never see an open air stadium built in WNY...you may see a retractable dome that could be used for other events.

yeah but if it's retractable there's no way they're going to leave it open in the dead of winter. They might as well just save the money and make it fixed-roof.

A stadium in the Falls is closer to my house and if there is any revenue generated for Niagara county, maybe my taxes will no longer be the 2nd highest in the state.

...unless Buffalo has a good running game and a good run defense and they're playing the Cardinals...In that case, you're crazy if you close that roof.

100% correct. To justify funding they will need to show the venue will be used more than 8 or 9 sundays in the winter.

You are probably right about this. Although if any city would open it during the winter it would be Buffalo!!!!

Name change would never happen... I read something about Kelly saying he liked the idea of NF but that they stay the Buffalo Bills. Drop that idea and think about the proposal for a second, though...

1. They run to and from ferries from TO and shuttle people to the games from there.

2. We tap into So. Ontario (Hamilton for example) much, much more due to close proximity.

3. You begin a development plan in NF to truly regionalize the Buffalo Met. area and highlight the good things that are happening there.

Many Bills fans would pay $20 more a ticket for this... true it f's the south towns, but they did have it pretty good for the last 35 years. If this is what it took to keep the city there then I am all for it.

You can forget about #1. Google Rochester Fast Ferry if you need more details.

I agree with the rest, except that these idiots had to go for the name change thing. A stadium in NF is not a bad idea. Changing the team name is a terrible idea. The morons should have kept their mouth shut.

"Niagara Bills" doesn't make any sense. It's like the Utah Jazz, the Los Angeles Lakers and the short-lived Tennessee Oilers (before they were renamed to the Titans).

Alright heres the deal an underwater stadium underneath niagra falls call the team the the Buffalo Bills of Niagra Toronto and every one is happy... imagine how much revenue that would bring in

Trying to copy the Pats ( Boston to New England ) to give the team more regional appeal. But the only business in the Falls is the stupid casino run by the Indians, who would demand a piece of the team.

We could never wear the throwbacks again. Arrows would rain down from the owners box, upon spotting the standing Buffalo.

It doesn't sound fine, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than either the LA Bills or the Toronto Bills.

Even if they move to Niagra, they should still be considered from Buffalo. When you watch a game on TV, you always see the falls in the background during the sponsor spots. Everyone outside of Buffalo thinks the falls are in Buffalo anyways. Dumbasses.

the bills don't play in buffalo to begin with. The fins play in miramar fla. Not miami. So it should not be a big deal keeping the same name.
