Word out of St. Louis is that the Rams are shopping veteran WR Torry Holt (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/rams/story/4CDB1382E11B6BD6862575560014D2BD?OpenDocument) and might be willing to take no more than a third-round pick. Their motivation is to clear cap space and moving Holt would give St. Louis $8M more dollars to work with.

Holt is entering the final year of a multi-year contract and is slated to make $6.65M in base salary in 2009. While the 32-year old might be willing to accept a new long term deal, it’s hard to believe he’d come down much from that $6M per season figure

He would have to come down from the 6 million figure. A 32 year old WR approaching the downside of his career.

he'd probably get a deal at 4 million per which would probably include some incentives IMO.

At 1st I was totally against the idea. Then I started to compare Holts career James Lofton. Lofton came to the Bills in his 13th season after a downturn in his 10th year.

I'd say a 4th rounder if we can get away with it... And a 3 year $14M (2009 - $7M, 2010 - $4M, 2011 - $3M) contract.

torry holt is well worth 6 million dollars, as well as a 3rd rounder. Can you imagine having Holt to take heat off of Lee??

But alas, it'll never happen.

I disagree he is heading southward on ability. He still has some game and he's worth some coin, but 6 million a year is more then Evans is making....

Holt is an aging vet and he'll have to accept less. nobody is going to pay him to be their #1 WR... He is going to be a 1b or #2 where ever he goes and 32 year old 1b's or #2's do not make 6 mil a season

well he might not be worth 6 mill but I would love to have him here, regardless. He is an amazing receiver who may be on the downslide of his career, but is still better than 90% of the WR's in the NFL. Remember, he didnt have much help there in Stl, Bulger was awful this year and Drew Bennett and Donnie Avery might not even be as good as Josh Reed and Roscoe, IMO.

to bad his cap figure is that high, there is no way the the bills will part with a 3rd round pick to pay a guy 8 million for 1 season. there is no way the bills would want to sign him to a long deal because of the money he'll command but if he was only due like 4-5 million this year it would be a nice 1 year solution for us. he is 32 and probably has 2 years left at a reasonably high level (he has already slowed down alot from 07 to 08)

I agree with you both.

I posted a story that was already posted, and he somehow has like 1000000000 power to give rep, and he negged me.

I wouldn't mind having him ethier, but it has to be for #2 WR money or at best #1b money

He hit me too, but Shelby bailed me out and gave me my rep back...

also Mr. Brasky's rep power has been reduced because of his abuse. Not sure how he got insane rep power...... I think it was an inside job

Holt's too old, but I'll take him over Toomer in a second.

If Torry would come here for 4.5 million a year, I would gladly give up a 3rd round pick for him. He takes good care of his body, there is no reason not to assume that he can't be productive for another 3-4 years.

I would like Holt but the Bills would never devote that much $$ to the WR position, after giving Evans his $$.

I still think they will sign a reasonable Vet, give Steve Johnson a much longer look (not a bad idea) and hope Hardy can contribute in situations after he mends.

I think most of us agree we need a #2 until James Hardy or Steve Johnson can fill the bill.

Some of our choices are...

Torry Holt - $6.5M in '09 + draft compensation.
Amani Toomer - $4M in '09
Bryant Johnson - $4M in '09

My money's on Holt or Johnson.

I gotta be honest, if Holt would restructure his deal a bit so it averaged to about 4.5 a year then I would much rather have him over any of those guys. Also, a little foreshadowing... Perhaps the Rams are eyeing Crabtree at #2?

Good possibility, but I could also see a new QB. I gotta think the Lions are taking Stafford though and its too high for Sanchez.

If I'm the Rams... It's Crabtree all the way... Or trade down for QB.

BTW... They can have our 3rd for Holt if they swap 2nds with us.
