Let's revisit this notion that the Sabres can't beat the top teams

Here's what they've done in the East against teams with more points so far this season:

    vs. Boston - 3-2
    vs. New Jersey - 2-1
    vs. Washington - 1-2
    vs. Montreal - 2-1-1
    vs. NY Rangers - 2-0
    vs. Philly - 0-1

So they're 10-8-1 with 21 points so far in 19 games.

If they, and I think they will, get into the playoffs, you have to like their chances to make some noise. The East is a logjam right now in the 4-8 spots with only 2 points separating all those teams. Florida and Philly both have multiple games in hand on us, but since we play Philly 3 times still, we can easily negate that and both games against Florida that remain are at home, which is a slight advantage as well.

Hopefully we weather the next month without Vanek and he comes back for the last 18-20 games and gets back on top of his game. If Miller can get hot at the right time, it could be an exciting postseason.

I said a few days before Vanek went down that I thought we were poised to go on a run and start climbing the standings right now, not as sure about that without him in the lineup now, but I think now is the time Lindy finally gets this team focused and they start playing up to their potential.

Understood, and getting there is of course step #1. I'm simply pointing out that we have in fact been successful against these teams thus far and therefore the possibility remains that we might again should we face them in the playoffs. Nowhere will you find me saying, we're going to run through the playoffs with ease.

Simply pointing out that it isn't all doom and gloom around here.
