Looking at the numbers, the Sabres have been decent on face-offs lately.
However, it seems to me that the Sabres always LOSE the important face offs. They win the face-off outside the blue line on an offsides, but they lose the face-off after an icing penalty and get trapped in the defensive zone. They'll win a center ice face off after a period or a goal, but they'll lose the first face off of a penalty (regardless of whether it's a PK or a PP).
Unfortunately, there are no stats on this- there's no way to prove it without re-watching games, and even then there's some subjectivity to what counts as an "important face-off." But has anyone else noticed this, or am I just biased?
