After missing all of the 2002 season with a broken foot, defensive tackle Hollis Thomas is just happy to be back ‘in the trenches’ playing football again.

“It felt good to knock the rust off and get back to basics,” said Thomas, who is heading into his eighth season with the Eagles.

Head coach Andy Reid seems confident that Thomas will be able to contribute in a big way up at Lehigh University when training camp begins.

“He’ll continue to get himself in playing shape the closer we get to training camp, and he’ll do a nice job,” said Reid.

At 6-0, 306 pounds Thomas should once again be able to help the Eagles defensive line especially against stopping the run.

Thomas must show the coaching staff that he is still the same player that he once was before suffering the injury.

“I’m just working real hard right now just to come back and play at a high level,” said Thomas, who enjoyed his best season as an Eagle in 2000.

During that season, Thomas caused havoc in opposing backfields, recording 81 total tackles, 45 solo, 36 assisted, and four sacks. Havoc that Thomas can create once again provided he stays injury free on the field.
