Bills may be working on bringing Crowell back

I have it on good word that the Bills are talking extensively with Angelo Crowell trying to work out a contract before free agency starts on February 27th.

It probably makes a lot of sense. With Suggs and Dansby both off the market, Crowell is probably one of it not the best OLB on the market, especially for the defense we play.

I’m still of the opinion, as I was before last season that Crowell is extremely underated and was destined to have a big 2008 before his knee went awry. So I’d be happy if he was brought back, given what the market looks like now.

How much of an up grade will he really be at OLB?

Well, that #3 on my list of what to do to get significantly better at OLB...

        1) Trade up for Curry, Im not a fan of Cushing and after that your talking about mid rounders... thats not a significant upgrade and lets not forget that were talking rookies who may take a few years to play up to par.
        2) Trade for a franchised player, that makes us better day one but will cost a fortune... I rated the Curry move higher because it would probably be cheaper to do than this
        3) Resign Crowell, that move makes sense because we actually are upgrading compared to Ellison. My hope was to get even better than Crowell but it doesnt look likely. Resigning him, if we are convinced hes fully "in" to being a big part of the team both on the field and mentaly, and if hes healed, makes sense.

Id still like to make a move that makes us better than what Crowell brings, but its a nice fall back option.

He is taking back his spot, not an upgrade really. Although if you are wondering compared to ellison, I don't think there is any question he is better than him.

I think we should bring him back... but I wouldn't depend on him to play the whole season or many more years at a high enough level.

We could definitley use an upgrade at OLB even with Crowell on board IMO.

His potential re-signing could put off the need for OLB till say the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft depending on what else we do in Free Agency.

Re: Bills may be working on bringing Crowell back

This is a smart move, he is better than anyone on the free agent market now that dansby and suggs are off, he knows the D and was the leading tackler on the D before his injury, if his knee is cleared and he is good to go, he is only 27 and he has good size would be excellent trio of LBers, then we can concentrate our draft towards the DLine and TE and C barring we dont sign one of thos either

Bigbub, I disagree he is the best out there, I would take Bart Scott from Baltimore over him. But I agree he seems to be an upgrade over ellison, knows our system so it looks like a good signing.

the more i think about it Doc, I have to agree. an upgrade that knows the system but leaves us more money to address greater issues like DT, Center, DE, TE, WR etal.

Ellison is a sound football player. Crowell is a playmaker... there is a huge difference between the two.
