Whilst there is no guarantee that Todd Heap will be released I think the Bills should definitely consider a trade.

There has been talk that the Chiefs think that Gonzalez is worth a Round 2 and that is what the Saints gave up for Shockey.

Heap's career stats are very close to Shockey especially considering he started off behind Shannon Sharpe in his early days.

His contract would be easily absorbed and in 2010 or 2011 we can look to draft his replacement from his old college of Arizona, Rob Gronkowski, a native of the Buffalo area.

Why would the Ravens deal? It frees up cap space to resign Suggs, Lewis and maybe Brown and in a deep TE class they can pick up a replacement on Day2

However, we need an experienced TE rather than a rookie to help Edwards and at 28, Heap still has some gas in the tank.

Thoughts?

Skip him, go to the Scouting Zone and check the stats that my boy posted at the combine

Vernon Davis also put up awesome stats at the combine in 2006. He hasn't exactly set the league on fire.

personally I would rather us get Jason Brown then to give Baltimore room and a reason to keep Brown...

I simply don't think we'll go for Brown as we've already invested massively in the OL with Peters, Dockery, Butler and Walker.

I think we'll draft a center and also look for a cheaper free agent like Jake Grove or Gregg Hangartner.

the game is won and lost in the trenches. I don't think we should worry about money invested in the OL and just get'er done

Hes gotten quiet but is still a top TE in my eyes.

I'd consider a cond 2010 but not a #2 in 09

I have Heap as a Bill on Madden. Does that count?

When giving up future draft picks I always look at what is coming out the following year.

Personally I would rather give up a R2 in 2009 rather than a pick in 2010 as I think there will be even more quality in R2 next year than in this.

I don't see a high number 2 - the 43rd or so overall pick - for an aging and oft-injured TE.

I just looked it up and he isn't as injured as I thought he was. Although he HAS been injured a lot in the last two.

He's actually not as old as I thought, either. But his last two years - one injured (2007), and one (2008) where he appeared in all 16 games - have been ineffective.

2nd round pick is way too much, a conditional 4th round pick would be more acceptable.

A second round pick for a tight end - almost any tight end - is not worth it. Add to that Heap's vet contract, injuries, downward performance, age, etc. and NO is the answer. If he can be had for $1 million per year for 2 years & a $1 million signing bonus then fine, sure, bring him in; but I doubt he can be had for that price.

Just what i was thinking.

So let's trade for anther TE who is supposed to make a impact (See robert royal) who ends up spending most of the time on the injured list no thanks.
