    CBC SPORTS ONLINE - In what will go down as a classic, Canada beat Sweden 3-2 in overtime to win the gold medal at the 2003 World Hockey Championships in Helsinki, Finland on Sunday.

    Anson Carter (New York Rangers) was the hero for Canada scoring a controversial wrap-around goal 14 minutes into the 20-minute sudden death overtime period.

    It's the first gold medal victory for Canada at the World Championships since 1997. Led by head coach Andy Murray, the unheralded Canadian squad finished the tournament unbeaten in nine games (8-0-1).

    "We worked really hard towards getting this team together," Carter told the Canadian Press. "We held team meetings away from the rink. We just tried hard to get to know each other and become a family....more....

    I just watched a replay of the full game. What a cool wrap-around by Anson Carter to take the gold

      I don't know why ESPN can't show this stuff. Even if it is tape delay in the middle of the night. But instead we get taped coverage of the Women's Billiards championship from the Mohegan Sun Casino in CT

          The game rocked!! Wow..

          I was so happy to see the Gold medal around Biron and Briere's necks!! Truly a great sight.. the guys on TSN called Biron an "inspiration" and said that all of his teammates love him and that he worked really hard and was a great team guy!! I was very proud.. lol..

          Anson Carter is the man!! I'm soooo glad that he scored that goal.. he's great

          Danny Briere.. my gosh.. one of the best players in the tournament.. I'm so excited for him and his future..

          Glad Canada could win it.. they deserved it.. going undefeated and all.. woohoo.....



          Look at the excitement in their faces.. hehe.. look at Biron go.. haha....

              Canada's second rate players were a little better than Sweden's second rate players. That tourney is meaningless.
