For today only, between 10am-5pm. Im going to have this thread here, providing updates that involve the Bills and potential transactions. I’m the research guy for some AP-affiliated outlets—meaning my only real job is to track down info by either phone or the internet and send it to the guy (next to the guy) who ultimately posts what you read everywhere else.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I’ll try to get some stuff on here before it gets anywhere else! (no promises though).

Make this a no-fight thread please! Want to try to keep all updates on this thread today.
<o:p> </o:p>
I’ll start now:<o:p></o:p>
10:05 AM- Linebacker Jamie Winborn is currently visiting.. Reports that he already visited yesterday were inaccurate.<o:p></o:p>

Ive always been a Winborn fan.

Hes a quality signing (if it happens).

He will, at the very least, give us quality depth

10:20AM: Im told Bills linebacker Matt Shelton coach is looking over tape of Indy FA LB Freddy Keiaho, and the team may bring him in for a visit this weekend.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Also, it was offensive line coach Sean Kugler that was most influential on Derrick Dockery getting released.<o:p></o:p>

Yes, I have an update on TJ.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I guess he even text’d a Philly radio station this morning saying he’d love to play there.<o:p></o:p>

Anything on the rumored Owen Daniels trade?

What rumored Daniels trade? Maybe there is, but I haven't heard a thing about it and either are the two people I am talking to and exchanging instant messages/phone calls with all day long.

not trying to be rude, but are the bills ever going to upgrade the #2 WR position? It has been such a glaring need and they just try to fill it with other short no names every year or a rookie. Cmon now Buffalo, how is the QB gonna be good if he only has Lee and Reed and you wont give the other guys a a chance?

11:00am: I’ve learned the Bills were planning on making a major run at Bo Scaife and were prepared to bid against Philadelphia for him, until Tennessee signed kicker Rob Bironas (spelling), which gave the Titans the ability to franchise Scaife. If there is any FA tight end out there the Bills are interested in, I have zero knowledge of it. I asked about LJ Smith and didn’t get any indication the Bills were interested in him.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

11:26AM- no word regarding Jabari Greer. The Bills do have an offer that’s been on the table. I highly doubt he’s taking it. The Patriots have Leigh Bodden in for a visit. If that doesn’t work out, don’t be the LEAST bit shocked to see Greer visiting them soon.

(Update- I dont know Bodden is visiting for NE and I haven't gotten that confirmed. I read about that on Pro Football Talk)

He's a mauler in the run game. Big ben makes it hard for an o-line to look good. The guy holds onto the ball for 10 seconds each time he drops back.

Yeah, he doesn't seem like an upgrade considering all I ever hear out of Pittsburgh is that they need to improve their line. More garbage picking by this organization instead of really addressing the talent issue. So far, and it's early in FA, I don't like what I've seen.

I don't know why the Bills would even care about looking at a RB right now - the Fred Taylor thing may have been to raise his price for NE...although he (if he came cheap) would be a fantastic #3 to have. But regardless, we are not hurting even if Lynch gets a 4 game suspension. Bruce Hall, who was on the PS looked excellent last year and in my opinion, was a smart move for the FO to keep around. If Omon doesn't improve, I could see Hall surpassing him on the roster...

For the record; IF he's fully healthy, Simmons is a pretty highly valued guard, and IMO (not an update- is my opinion) is worth signing.

Kendall Simmons is a great pickup IF HEALTHY! Hes the nasty type of OL that we wish we had. He brings an attitude and mean streak that makes us better. Id love to see the nasty block he lays down to spring Lynch for a long TD. I can see it, I really can.

"The South Florida Sun-Sentinel confirms that the Dolphins have interest in free agent Laveranues Coles, but only "at the right price."

The Fins have seemed a lot more intent on upgrading their offensive line and defense than skill positions to this point. They're not in the mix for any of the top receivers available. Coles is younger and might want at least what T.J. Houshmandzadeh gets. The Dolphins definitely won't pay that."

Is signing any player more important than signing the right player? We were big players in FA the past couple years and look where that got us? Our best players have come from the draft.

I think we need to be smart and get players that fit. Geoff Hangartner is a perfect example of a need player that may not be a big signing but that may really impact our o-line.

Just because we aren't throwing money at Bart Scott or any available center doesn't mean we are going to lose.

First, I agree, I dont know why we are looking so hard.

Secondly, when did Bruce Hall look great? In the preseason? Ugghhh. No, thats not enough for me to be honest.

Now, I would go and spend a 5th rounder on Andre Brown from NC State. Hes speedy, strong, has wiggle, and is underrated.

A few years ago, people responded with similar and often snide remarks when I commented that Fred Jackson looked good in TC...and that he might eventually join our roster.

Per Gang Green MB Greer "almost" a jet.
That sucks. If we're just releasing players and not bringing in anyone that significant, why wouldn't we just keep Greer?

For a team that "lacks talent" it doesn't make any sense to me to let some of your better players just walk. And to a division rival no less.

I don't see how this team benefits by just letting Greer go. We have so much cap space and there's just not that much talent left to spend it on.

I'm fine with getting Hangartner and Simmons, but how much has our OL really improved? Dockery was obviously highly overpaid, but I wouldn't say he played poorly. So would Simmons even be an upgrade? I'm certain Hangartner would be an upgrade over Fowler and Preston, but that's not saying much.

Plan B for Bills:With Buffalo losing out to New England for the services of running back Fred Taylor, the Bills could turn to former Lions and Bears free-agent running back Kevin Jones, who has drawn interest from the Bills, Jets, Rams and Buccaneers.

Buffalo is keeping busy at other positions as well. On Thursday, Buffalo hosted a visit from former San Diego and Jacksonville cornerback Drayton Florence, who also is considering a return to San Diego

Totally agree. That would be a very good move. Probably our best #1, #2 tandem since Reed and Early.

I was thinking about Moulds/Peerless that one year, but no I think this is better.

As long as he can get open who cares? Hardy is a Giant and from what I could see can't get open to save his life.

i would prefer a #2 that has more height, but he can be a good #2...then we got reed and stevie in the slot, and hardy when he comes back. Both Stevie and Hardy in the redzone could be good.

Roscoe i just not a starting WR, hes a special teams guy.

Enough with this height crap.

If he can get open that is all that matters.

Get Hardy going in the redzone somehow or draft a big TE.

i said i would like a starting WR with more height for redzone work, etc...to throw it up to go get it...but if the guy is shorter but can play and play well...then that is fine.

Height does not mean you can play....but a starting WR with height can do some other things. But if he cant get open, he is worthless.

your right, hardy and stevie could play in the redzone...i have no problem with coles or a shorter WR if he can play, which coles can. Obviously if you can find a player like coles who was taller that would be perfect, but if he can play height does not matter, I agree. I was just stating what I would like.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that Kerry Collins has reached a deal to re-sign with the Titans.

No details have been disclosed. Collins was seeking $8 million per for two or three years, but that's a lot to pay for a 36-year-old below average quarterback. He did have the advantage, however, of knowing that the Titans aren't ready to turn back to Vince Young.

i'd say slim to none. Maybe a 5% chance at best. With Dockery gone and them HAVING to sign either a FA guard or center now (won't start two rookies)-- they will not be spending that kind of money on a CB. This is what they drafted McKelvin for.
