Re: Bills sign Hangartner
Geoffrey Thomas Hangartner (born April 22, 1982 in Houston, Texas) is an American football player who currently plays center for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. He played college football at Texas A&M University.
High school years
Hangartner attended New Braunfels High School in New Braunfels, Texas and was a student and a letterman in football. In football, he helped lead his team to two state playoff appearances, and as a senior, was a first-team All-District choice and a second-team All-State selection.
College career
He started 36 consecutive games at center and offensive lineman for Texas A&M. As a senior in 2004, Hangartner moved from center to tackle, where he started all 12 contests. He was also a first-team All-Big 12 choice[1] and was selected to play in the Hula Bowl.
NFL career
Hangartner was selected in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Panthers. He reportedly scored 47 (out of a possible 50) on the Wonderlic Personnel Test administered during the 2005 NFL Combine.[2] Although he spent the entire 2005 season backing up Jeff Mitchell appearing sparingly on special teams, and as a reserve on the offensive line, he took over the starting position in the 2006 NFL season after starter Justin Hartwig went down with an injured groin muscle. It is uncertain whether Hartwig will resume his starting duties upon recovering from his injuries, as Hangartner and the offensive line only allowed two sacks in the last two games.

Interestingly, the official V-Text called him a Center and not a Center/Guard.
Could tell us what their plans are with him.Buffalo Bills Now! and NFL Now! podcasts

Re: Bills sign Hangartner
People are going to want to compare this to a Tutan Reyes type signing but it's not the same. Carolina would love to have him but simply can't because of the salary cap. Carolina's fans don't want to see him go. Have you ever heard a Bills fan say this about a "backup" lineman?
He's a capable starter with tons of upside and the Bills would be smart to sign him. Considering what Jason Brown will go for, Hangartner could be a real steal for whoever signs him.
He's gotten better every single year since being drafted in the 5th round out of Texas A&M in 2005. It wouldn't surprise me if he winds up in the Pro Bowl down the road at some point.
The only reason the Panthers aren't all over him is because they have less cap space than any team in the league and already have their starting line from last season in tact. Hangartner was our key reserve, though. It's going to suck losing a guy like that.www.billsaddiction.com -The Home of Bills Addicts-
