Sorry, don't really much in way of juicy stuff (sorry); but I was able to get a couple of updates and tidbits this morning.
* The Bills have definitely made an offer to L. Coles, and it is true he should be deciding today between buffalo and Miami. Sounds to me like they are hopeful about him, but I think they expect him to sign with Miami.
* The Bills do plan on signing a WR in free agency. A couple of guys who were also FA last year could become targets if Coles passes on Buffalo. Bryant Johnson and DJ Hackett. The team likes Nate Washington, but expect him to sign with Tennessee.
* Amani Toomer was contacted, but the team doesnt expect him to come for a visit.
* Was unable to find out anything regarding Kendall Simmons other than they haven't officially offered him a contract.
* Some people in the organization wanted the team to take a run at Brian Dawkins. Turns out his deal in Denver could amount to 2-year, $9 million dollar deal.
* The Bills as of now haven't even contacted a tight end or defensive end for a visit.
* Dont know who or why people keep bringing up TJ WHo's Your Momma on this board, but the Bills have not contacted him and don't have any intentions on it unless his price tag drops rapidly.. They are not goign to pay another WR more than Lee Evans, so you guys can kill the TJ to Bills rumors/wishes.
* Have inquired with Houston about Owen Daniels, but so have a host of teams. Houston doesnt have an interest in trading him to anybody unless they are blown away.
* If Jabari Greer doesnt sign with Detoit, they expect him to end up in New England. The Bills do have an offer on the table at this point, but they dont exepct him to come back.
* No contact at all with Angelo Crowell over the past week.
* I asked about Jermaine Phillips, and was unable to get any information. THis is a guy I really want to find out more info, but have struck out. Ditto for Sean Jones. I got the vibe that they are definitely looking to fill a SS slot in free agency, but I dont know with whom.
* They expect it will take a deal that averages close to $10 million per year to lock up Jason Peters. I do not know what their offer on the table is for, and neither does my guy. Overdorf and Eugene Parker have been communicating, so I suppose that's a good thing.
* The team realizes Fitzpatrick isn't exactly the ideal type of vet QB to back up Edwards many thought, such as a Garcia, Ferrotte or Kitna; but the team graded him as the highest backup QB on the market, after it coming down (in their grades) to Fitzpatrick over Boller.
* Hangartner is the new starting center. They expect him to start but still may take a center fairly early in the draft, because Fowler and Preston are both not expected to be back.
* I found this mildly surprising. THe club may be interested in kicker MIke Nugent (Jets)
* WIth NE freeing up a lot of cap room, they expect them to become very active this week.
* Finally, this is the part I know your asking about the most.. I asked if there were any other new names the Bills will be bringing in. I was able to get a few names that the Bills are "taking a look at and evaluating". Doesnt mean they will be formally brought in or offered a deal, but here are a few names that I got.
Matt Lehr (Guard, New Orleans), Ben Wilkerson (guard, atlanta) and John Busing (S, Cinci)
That's all I got for now.. Trying to get some more stuff for later, but except for a Coles decision not much is expected to go on today.
