    JAGUARS: Passing interest in camp

    By Vito Stellino
    Times-Union sports writer

It's rather appropriate that the Jaguars have chosen the words "passing camp" to describe the four workouts scheduled this week.

That's because the Jaguars' passing game has become the focus of the attention the team has received since the NFL Draft. The drafting of Byron Leftwich, the indications that veteran Mark Brunell may be a lame duck, the uncertainty about how David Garrard fits in and the continuing search for a No. 2 receiver to replace Keenan McCardell have spurred interest in a team that has endured three consecutive losing seasons and hasn't been on Monday Night Football since 2001.

Leftwich and Brunell appear on the cover of the current edition of Sports Weekly and the quarterback situation has become fodder for national media. ESPN.com labeled Brunell's contract situation a "festering wound." And on NFL.com, former Cincinnati quarterback Boomer Esiason said, "My former QB coach in Cincinnati, Ken Anderson, finds himself in an eerie situation that is reminiscent of the Jeff Blake-Neil O'Donnell-Akili Smith debacle that took place a few years ago in Cincinnati."
