    Ryan Smyth...perfect fit.

Ryan Smyth is exactly the type of player that this organization needs. He would bring scoring, grit, heart and character to a team that is lacking all of that. I'd love to see this FO go get him, but I doubt they would. It makes too much sense, thus Darcy won't do it. They'll say he's too old (just turned 33), but there's something to be said for experience...how many prospects or young players do we freakin' need? Go get him, Darcy!

Oh man I am with you 100%. Best possible player we could get but there is no chance in hell we pull that trigger.

He is not Bob Corkum. So Darcy can't pull the trigger.

      We are in 5th place
      Clump is on the IR
      Chubluv average is 167
      Yaz average is 179[/B]

I know, but why they don't think this way is beyond me. Seriously, do what you have to do to get a deal done...he's under contract for a few more years. So, they want a 1st rounder? Ok, give it to them. So, they want a young player? Ok, give them one of the million we have.

I don't understand why this is such a hard concept for this organization. Most championship teams have solid veterans on them to lead the young guys. This team NEEDS a few veterans to lead the way.

I think you answered the question with the fact that he has a huge contract for 2 or 3 more years.

Can we stop bringing up Corkum for christ sakes. Sick of hearing about him.

How bout the deadline deal that brought us Doug Gilmour and JP dumont?

To me this is a Golisano problem and not a Reiger Problem.

We lost in the first round that year.

Can't argue...but at this point I think it's and organizational issue. Too many tools running the show.

You think Golisano knows anything about hockey? You think he knows what players to get? He MIGHT be concerned about money, but what about a few years ago when he had us spend right up to the cap? The players on this team have Darcy's name written all over them.

Yes we were decimated by injuries and the flu.

Point is we have made MANY deadline deals in the past yet all I hear about is stupid Bob Corkum.

I agree. But it was just a stupid move. They also got Briere for Gratton near the deadline.

I think Golisano sets the pay structure and how much the GM is able to spend. We were on the cap 2 years ago when the cap was about what we are spending right now. The team has not moved up with the Cap increase.

The Corkum move itself was not terrible as they needed a mucker who could win a faceoff. The bad part about it was that was the only move made that season.

                              Yep.

If Reiger was left to run this thing without restriction I would have faith he could build a winner.
