HOF hockey writer Jim Kelley on Sabres and trade deadline

"I've heard every name from Nikolai Khabibulin in Chicago to Manny Legace, who is playing out his career (in the AHL)," Kelley said, adding that Darcy Regier may have a special issue making a trade.

"Any deal of any consequence in Buffalo, they've been trying to link Maxim Afinogenov into the deal," Kelley said. "There doesn't seem to be much of a taker. You look at the team without the goaltending scenario, even with Thomas Vanek coming back, you think they'd be a buyer. A great number of their young players, and even some of their veteran young players, have not been scoring in a consistent pattern."

While the Sportsnet and Sports Illustrated writer said Columbus seems interested in Connolly, the center may have to look to a discounted deal, because of the economy and the inherent injury risk involved, as he has missed close to 250 games in the past five years.

The only move I could see this tool doing is acquiring Legace for a 5th round pick.

You know, because we're posed for a cup run and all

Trade Hecht, Max, Tallinder, Paille and Macarthur.

Give money to teams willing to acquire Peters.

    Encourage Numminen to retire.

Bring up all the kids for next year, including Myers and lets hope we make another 05/06 run.

Why was I born in Buffalo?
“You hold a players only meeting and get each guy to stand up and say what he can bring to the table... and if he doesn't, you punch him in the face.” ~~ Harry Neale, on how to fix the Sabres season.

Isn't Legacy a FA by the way?

          Myers?

He is not even under contract. And is now 6'8" and is still around 210 lbs. He is nowhere near ready.

Yes, I don't believe it would cost anything to bring him in...just his contract.

I will punch myself in the face if they pick up Legace. How is he any kind of improvement over Lalime? Or is he going to stop pucks and then take them down to the other end and score goals too?

He is still property of the Blues so it would take something, albeit not much.
