View Full Version : Biron heading back to Buffalo?

Speculation is rampant that the Sabres, Flyers and Coyotes are working out separate deals that would ultimately bring old friend Martin Biron back to Buffalo.

The Flyers are trying to get their hands on a defenseman and were supposedly working on a deal that would send Biron to the Coyotes for Derek Morris. The Coyotes would then send Biron to the Sabres in a package for Henrik Tallinder and/or Maxim Afinogenov.

I have speculated about this. Bringing Marty back sounds like a Darcy move. Dumping Max is good. I hate to see Tallinder go as he has been better as of late, but the Sabres are loaded with young guys and if they get a pick or prospect from Pheonix too that would be fine.

Oh get that done in a freaking heart beat. Tallinder has been playing horribly for 2 straight years and he is always injured.

If they pull this trade off, do they re-sign Marty and does he want to re-sign knowing that he definitely isn't the number one goalie?

Hey Eklund may be right!

I know it's Eklund, but he says Sabres might have interest in Marty Biron

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was kind of a sidenote in his latest post. Supposedly the Sabres are interested in the LA Kings Ersberg, who was starting tonight against the Flyers.

The Sabres are interested in Kings goaltender Erik Ersberg as well. Ersberg is currently in net at the game I am watching...Also heard rumors that the Sabres may have interest in the goalie in the other net at this game...

how cool would that be?

He might move up to an entire 3%!

at this stage of his career he might. He is getting older and never really proved himself on a contending Flyers team. If not big whup I am done with Tallinder and Max anyways.

I would agree he didn't prove himself, other than the playoffs last year. I only really know his play this year from fantasy numbers and they aren't spectacular.

If he were going to backup Miller again, I think it would give the coaching staff and possibly the team a ton of confidence in him because they know him.

Still, I think Lalime isn't the biggest issue right now so I guess I'm indifferent on this move.

Max and Tallinder can take a walk though. I'm all for getting rid of those guys.

I like Morris as well but if Miller is out for a significant portion of the year we need Biron as well.

Our Defense is not the problem AT ALL.

In reality we need scoring more than anything but getting Vanek back is a HUUUUUUGE BOOST BUFFALO

Why is it horrible? If Miller is out for a period of time, Marty will help. Dumping Max helps. It gets Tallinder off the books next year, which will help in getting Stafford signed.

I can see one being indifferent, but calling this possible trade horrible?

Why?

cause lalime is fine and played well enough, get some tuffness and goal scorers in here, dont just be happy we are making a move
also Biron is average at best in goal and there is a reason we traded him
why trade for players we already had here?
plus what is his contract like?
wasnt that the reason we traded him in the first place?
this organization makes no sense whatsoever
We get pushed around every game and also cant score
This would not be a good move at all we signed Lalime to be the backup let him do his job till Miller is ok which according to WGR55 he is progressing
bring in someone to help us make the playoffs Biron really isnt much better than Lalime has been playing for us

Dr. Lecter
03-03-2009, 03:44 PM
Biron's deal is about the same as Max's and expires at the end of the year. So the contract is no big deal.

and for the record i am all for moving half the team to get them off the books
yes i am excitable cause i cant stand the Sabres roster this year and Darcy has done nothing to help the siutation
when does Darcy stop getting the free pass?
he can draft and develop but thats about it

Paille
kotalick
max
ellis
tallinder
teppo
spacek
lydman
paetsch
macarthur
all should be traded i know it wont happen but those guys just go thru the motions i know some like Spacek but he sucks in my eyes

Paille is still young an cheap, despite having a bad year. Guys like Ellis are fine - he is a 4th liner. Lydman has been their best D-man this year. Paetsch is a 7th D-man - what is the problem with him?

In today's NHL there are 4th line guys that are not great. I don't see why having some like that are such a big deal.

Not all players are stars. Some are simply role players and depth.

Dr. Lecter
03-03-2009, 03:53 PM
BTW, this trade includes Tallinder and Max two guys you want traded and you are still *****ing about it.

What the hell do you want them to do? They are not getting Malkin for those two guys.

RockStar36

I'm not crazy about renting Marty, then again it gets rid of Max and Hank so I guess that is kind of like addition by subtraction.

I just don't buy the whole Miller thing because from all reports I've heard/read, he is doing well and won't be out for a ton of time.

those are your opinions on those guys, i hate to say it but same lineup last year didnt make the playoffs
ellis had a 2 game stretch like 25 games ago and got the attention of a few fans so he automatically gets a free pass even thou he has been cut and traded over and over again i dont think he has done anything since especially throw a check
Lydman is our best Defensman between huge giveaways and getting skate around half the time
Paille i will give u sometimes he looks like the next Cam Neely out there but again like many on the roster he is extrememly inconsistent
Paetsch is a bum he offers more as a forward than he does as a Dman but i see ur point as 7th Dman, i would rather have someone else maybe a guy with a mean streak that can be put in the lineup when warranted as the 7th

I also understand that not all can be superstars so lets stride for some players with tuffness and passion for the game not guys that play hard every 10 games like the most of the players on the roster
Sorry but this Roster as is or with the addition of Marty goes no where

and confirms Darcy is biding his time for next season
THe goal shouldnt be make the playoffs and that is success
it is to win a Stanly Cup

BTW lets be a little more realisitc and make the trade for Morris instead?
something we need a better DMan
or package them up with a number 1 or 2 and get Ryan Smyth ?
i am all for dumping them just not for a backup goaltender

If the goal is to make the playoffs, I would say trading for Marty is part of that. If they were giving up on the year they would be content with Lalime and Enroth.

Then what happens when Morris is a UFA?

I assume you're also aware that Morris is waiving his NTC and gave a specific list of teams to Phoenix. So who knows if Buffalo is even on that list. If they aren't, there is no deal to Buffalo. Darcy can't help that.

they should be sellers anyone who thinks this roster takes us past the first round? or even makes the playoffs is just hoping this team is not good enough the proved that last year with the same roster made no moves and here we are again same arguements about the same passionless roster

God forbid we signed someone we traded for that is crazy talk

No he cant but he can find a willing partner and should have done this before the deadline

The roster is not the same. Timmy is playing. Rivet is here.

Making the playoffs is important for this team, even if it is just from a financial stand point.

They should be sellers? That is the worst thing they could do. Do you remember a few years ago when Edmonton got hot and went to the Cup? What seed were they?

The scenario involving Phoenix and the Flyers moving Marty there to be shipped somewhere else (believed to be Detroit or Buffalo) is news to my Flyers sources.

I like this move a lot. Who doesn't love Marty? He'd be a solid pickup and finally give Lindy a goalie that he trusts. Plus, something tells me that Miller's ankle is worse than the team is telling us. I still go by my original prediction that Miller won't be back until the playoffs. If this is true, then the Sabres definitely need to get another goalie to help them get into the playoffs. Plus it gets rid of two crappy players, Max and Tallinder. Good Riddance to both!

What? What exactly did he not prove? He proved that he could be real good in the playoffs, like he was last year. And where do you get a contending team? Philly was dead last the year they got Biron, and it was partially the acquisition of Biron that helped make them a decent team, but not a contender imo.

If Lydman has been our best Dman this year, our defense must REALLY suck. I think you overestimate Lydman.

Lydman has stepped up and been the most physical I have ever seen him play this year but his puckhandling and poor decisions with the puck offset any good he has done. This guy is a total moron when it comes to taking care of the puck.
