3:37pm: I’m told by someone in the know that L. Coles is signing with the Bengals and the Bills are going to look into bringing another WR or two into town over the next day or two.

Who that WR may be, your guess is as good as mine.

Well I was told by someone else who knows someone that he knows who tells his brother who knows someone else that Coles is going to sign with Buffalo.

And whomever posted in here last night "their source said the Bills have signed Coles" should be banned, because I'm hearing the Bills were never close to signing him and did nothing but make him an offer that was on the table since last Friday.

I hope Coles signs with the Bungles and they grossly overpay for his services. This years version of Bryant Johnson.

At least we are not waiting on him anymore.
It would have been nice (maybe).
What are the other options out there?
Devery Henderson
Marvin Harrison
Joey Galloway

Perhaps this is the truth, or perhaps the Bills are covering their ass and acting like "we weren't that interested anyway..."

Bills offered 3 years, $20 million (almost $7 million per year).

Bengals sign Coles for 4 years, $28 million ($7 million per year).

Houshmanzadeh signed with Seattle for 5 years, $40 million ($8 million per year).

The question is, how much did the Bengals guarantee? The per year numbers were close, just one more year for Cincy's offer.

exactly, i wrote this on the FA thread...
3:58PM: I would like to see the structure of Cole’s deal and how much of that is guaranteed money before making fun of the Bengals. Contracts are done funny. Like Peter King said, with Haynesworth’s contract, it is essentially a 4 year, 48 million dollar deal. So lets see other numbers first.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Call Baltimore. Mason wants a new deal. Trade away a draft pick - there's a good chance they'll blow the pick anyway.

crabtree would look so good in a bills uni.

mason? if you want an old small wr.. just go get harrison. why trade?

I'm glad this is over. I think our offer was pretty generous considering this guy is always on the injury report. I know he always ends up playing on Sunday, but he's not getting any younger.

Try not to think about Crabtree as it only increases the chances of disappointment when he is off the board (Raiders still seem likely).

The question is, what about Maclin? Is he worth the 11th pick?

I still would prefer Orakpo.

patmoran2006
03-04-2009, 03:15 PM
Maclin, I'm not qualified to answer that.

Orakpo, very small chance he's there at 11 anymore, he's moved up by all accounts.

I agree with the very small chance on Orakpo.

Maclin would be a slight reach right now. But he was cleared yesterday by his James Andrews to do all workouts at his Pro Day on March 5th and 19th. Right now I have Maclin as a top 15 prospect, he breaks a 4.4 and runs crisp routes to go along with his good hands and he's a top 10 type of a guy.

good bye
not worth that money at all
Sign another Vet on the lines of Brandon Loyd or something like him maybe an older guy to help bring along Hardy and Johnson
Toomer, Harrison, trade for Holt, just saying Coles would have helped alot but i applaud Russ for not bidding for him
No sign some DLineman already and cut those losers Denney, McCargo, and Kelsay

That's what you pay your next G or OLB, not Coles ! Insane.

I don't think there are any other receivers out there whose signing wouldn't be pointless ... just has-beens or never-wases.
The goal was to have a solid No. 2 outside guy (which has been a goal for four years now). We don't need a slot, Reed can do that. The only hope now is for Hardy or Johnson to step up.

Not worth the money the Bengals are paying him.

Brian Waters is worth that kind of money, L. Coles is not.

Maclin would be a great pick. He's a playmaker and this team needs that (among other things). If he's good enough for the 15th or 18th pick, I'm fine with taking him at all. Some will call it a reach, but the 11th pick is all we have. If Maclin's the guy who can help us the most, then take him.

Coles in Cincy will easily match the production they're losing with TJ going to Seattle.

7 million per year?

That's about what he's worth.

Of course, people on here will now spin it into, oh, it's good we didn't sign him. What a bum. He's overpaid!

Yet, will sit and defend what we pay to Lee Evans and Roscoe Parrish.

Never wanted Coles, glad the Bengals got him.

Playing next to Johnson>>>>>>>Playing next to Evans

Playing with Palmer>>>>>>>Playing with Edwards.

It all depends on how the contract is broken down..I should have waited to see that. However, I don't think he's a 7 million a year WR at this point in his career.

The Bengals had to overpay for a 2nd tier WR like Coles. With their OL, he'll get very few balls thrown his way, and he'll have to work his ass off to get to the ones that are.

With all the holes they have, they go out and spend that coin on a WR they don't need instead of addressing their shoddy OL. No wonder they've only made the playoffs once in the last 20 years.
