Two rookies aren't allowed back next week

The Rams got their last look for a while at a pair of draft choices, tight end Dan Curley and guard Scott Tercero, at their minicamp this weekend.

According to National Football League rules, neither can participate in the Rams' minicamp next weekend because their schools have yet to finish the spring session. Tercero, a sixth-round choice from California, can rejoin the Rams in practice May 25. Curley, a fifth-round pick from Eastern Washington, will be unavailable until June 10.

"I feel bad because I'll miss a lot," Tercero said. "I'll have to work out as hard as they're working here. That's hard to do on your own."

Curley has the extra burden of learning the fullback position. At school, he has just a one-hour computer test remaining, so he can use the bulk of the next 3 1/2 weeks to study the playbook.

"It's the most complicated position other than the quarterback," coach Mike Martz said. "We had to pick up his learning curve a little bit because he's going to miss so much."

Curley said he played a little fullback at Cal, but added that over the weekend, "I was struggling quite a bit because there's so much motion and shifting in this offense. I'm going to have to find plenty of time every day to get caught up with what everybody's doing back here."
