This is why there are two new pro football leagues on the horizon:

As new NFLPA Executive Director DeMaurice Smith proclaims that he'll spend every day hoping for peace but preparing for war over the next Collective Bargaining Agreement, a league source tells us that the owners are hoping for "war" -- and already are prepared for it.

there’s a belief that many of the recent layoffs and other cost-cutting moves haven’t been made as a result of the bad economy, but as part of the preparations for a no-revenue work stoppage. (The reductions also help bolster the notion that the economic model under the current CBA doesn’t work.)

Finally, we’re told that most if not all employee contracts that extend into the 2011 season or beyond include specific language reducing compensation in the event of a work stoppage.
It's perfect timing. When would be a better time to start a new football league than a time when the branded league is about to experience an indefinite work stoppage?

The UFL especially seems like they are trying to bank on this, since their plan is to play during the fall months.

I'm 100% for more football leagues. Competition can only make the NFL better and IF the Bills do leave Buffalo it gives the city a chance at another (granted, not as grand) football team to follow.

I think there's room enough for another league. There are alot of talented players that won't be drafted and they can have a place to develop. As long as these two leauges can realistically be smart and play in venues that they can sell out and not try to aim too high, those leagues or league will be fine. We saw what happened with the USFL and the XFL. Bombs the both of them businesswise.

Because it'll have the opportunity to take off and develop a following while the mega-rich NFL is in a lockout, squabbling about money.

Root for 1 of them to make it.. SINCE WE MAY BE IN IT .

The NFL is becoming exclusive only to the top 18-20 markets than can afford their high cost.
Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit

Because the USFL did so well when it never directly competed with the NFL?

              Or the WFL?

If the NFL has a work stoppage, another league may pop up, but who will care when the NFL comes backs?

              Next to no one.
