Defensive end Duane Clemons agreed to a two-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals, who have tried to upgrade their defense by signing four veteran free agents.

The Bengals declined to confirm the deal because Clemons had not yet signed.

Former Kansas City Chief Duane Clemons will be the third free agent defensive lineman to sign with the Bengals this offseason.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus said Tuesday that Clemons and the Bengals have agreed to terms on a two-year contract. Clemons, who will turn 29 later this month, has 35 career sacks in seven NFL seasons with Minnesota and Kansas City.

"Our perspective is Duane is a very talented player and pass rusher and is looking for a big season with the Bengals," Rosenhaus said.

The Bengals are not confirming the agreement because a contract has not been signed, so coach Marvin Lewis was unavailable for comment.

Drew Rosenhaus is rarely at a loss for words. Along with his brother Jason, the Rosenhauses have earned their reputation as premier sports agents in part because they are better salesmen than most.
Both had to stop and think some Tuesday, however, before they could remember the last time one of their clients played for the Bengals.

"That's a good question," Drew said before pausing. "Louis Oliver would have to be the last prominent one."

It was nine years ago that Oliver, a safety, signed with the Bengals as a free agent from Miami. Rosenhaus can now update his list after he and the Bengals worked out a two-year, $2.18 million deal that will bring defensive end Duane Clemons to Cincinnati. The deal, which will count just less than $1 million against this year's salary cap, could be signed and officially announced by the club as soon as today.
