    Goodel wants a longer season

DANA POINT, Calif. -- More games that count, perhaps as early as August 2011? That's exactly what NFL commissioner Roger Goodell wants.

There are several hurdles before the league can expand its regular season from 16 to 17 or 18 games. Among them is reaching a new collective bargaining agreement with the players' union.
Still, the commissioner hopes to present a proposal to the owners in May after the matter was discussed at length this week at the owners meetings.
"It's possible that we could vote in May, but we want to have core discussions on this," Goodell said Wednesday. "Anytime you have change, there is some reluctance. But it's clear we don't need four preseason games anymore."

Roger Goodell wants the NFL regular season to expand to 17 or 18 games.

I agree that we dont need 4 preseason games, but I really dont know about adding 2 more games. In a longer season, more people are gonna get hurt which in turn will cause them to create more safety rules, and one day we will literally be playing where NO ONE can touch the QB.

Thats my only fear though. More Bills games = more awesome Sundays.

personally I think this is the wrong approach for the game. They are doing this to further increase revenues. It has nothing to do with the game itself just money. Yes 4 preseason games may be too much, but then again it is a great way to evaluate talent and get the team in synch for the seaosn.

and as you mentioned the health of the players will be jeapordized more.

I'm all for it. I'd rather players put their health at risk in regular games than playing preseason games.

People get injured in Pre-season all the time too.

If they cut the number of pre-season games down to 2, I would love if the NFL season started in mid-August. More NFL games would be fun.

            It impacts single season records.

I would love it. Maybe they can expand the roster to allow 3-5 more active players per week. Create more jobs

Re: Goodel wants a longer season

I have always hated the 4 game preseason schedule. I would make it two games but give teams more flexibility to have more voluntary workouts or report earlier to training camp.

The CBA is going to be a big part of this getting done. And I hope it can be done rather soon to avoid the uncapped season followed shortly by a work stoppage.

true dat. however another factor is, less games for young guys to get PT and mature.

the more i think about it though, the more i'm impartial. give me a while and ill prolly be all for it

i say 18 games and extend one more week for the pre season month; maybe have a game in the first week of training camp.

dont do it. the nfl is the most popular sport by far because every game counts... you can drop 10 games in a row in baseball or a bunch in bball or hockey and it doesnt really matter...

18 games isn't that much different from 16 games.

                              Every game would still count.
