Bills’ Ellison Signs Tender
Posted by Aaron Wilson on March 25, 2009, 6:42 p.m.

Buffalo Bills restricted free agent linebacker Keith Ellison has signed his $1.01 million one-year tender, according to Adam Caplan of Scout.com.

A former sixth-round draft pick from Oregon State who recorded 73 tackles last season in 14 starts, Ellison is projected to start again next season.

“He’s done a really nice job for us whenever he’s stepped in and played,” Bills coach Dick Jauron said of Ellis this week at the annual league meetings. “He’s very smart, very athletic, a tough guy, a great teammate. So we’re OK.”

According to NFL.com, Ellison has 177 career tackles, two interceptions and two sacks in three seasons.

It's crap like this that makes me kick myself for not getting into football in college. I'd like to get paid 1 million dollars to get steamrolled every Sunday.

If they tendered him that low, there is no way they want him as a starter.

He should've signed his tender the SECOND it was offered to him. NObody else was going to want him

He's a decent backup, and I think - despite Jauron's coachspeak - that the Bills realize that, too.

I think the Bills are dumb enough to be content with this guy as a starter.

ellison is a decent backup not a starter, so i say this is only a "utility move"

He's a decent backup, and I think - despite Jauron's coachspeak - that the Bills realize that, too.

The situation is getting a little nerve-racking though.

1. It's one month into FA and we haven't signed any LB's yet. We've let several walk out the door without offers.
2. Jauron made positive comments about Ellison earlier this week (although I agree it was most likely coachspeak).
3. Today, Ellison signs his tender.

Taken as a whole, it seems like the Bills are prepping us for another year of Ellison as a starter. Uggh.

The ONLY good thing about this is that we didn't repeat the Dockery mistake. As bad as Dock was last year, we have yet to come up with anyone that's better or even equal but cheaper. At least we have enough bodies to play LB- unlike G- and the Bills can still cut him if they sign or draft someone else.

He wasn't paid to be a starter. 1 year deal .

Well, until someone else is being paid to be the starter, then he's still the starter regardless of his paycheck.

I hear ya but 1 year could mean, we're drafting one or plugging The Digi somewhere.
