How about this for our new starting LG?

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that tackle Jonas Jennings' contract has been terminated.

He may want starting T money, but he just got canned so maybe not. With a contract that was set to pay him 4.2 mill, thats certainly reasonable... we may even get him for less. It makes alot of sense.

Anyways, he played G in college, and maybe played G for us some... also C?

Certainly could start at G. I always liked him, but he just never became that dominant LT. Here, he wont have to. Unless Peters leaves and then he could play LT in a pinch...certainly has experience and isn't horrible at doing it.

Maybe we could get a hometown discount? His injury issues seem pretty bad, but he was pretty healthy while here... maybe a t G hes less likely to get hurt.

Bring him back to where he started.

Do we have any interest? Pat?

This is a good article as to what happened in SF:

    1.) He's a china doll

2.) he's old and on the down side

3.) If were going to get a LG lets not screw around with aging retreads

      1) He wasnt a china doll here and may not risk his body as much at G

      2) Agreed, but whos better for us?

      3) Outisde of the draft, we have a choice other than aging retreads?

The only difference between him and Kendall Simmons is that Kendalls more of a true G.... unless your just hell bent on a rookie G or starting one of our own backups... BOTH are scary versions to me.

Yep, its hillarious... about as funny as the left side of our line will be next year behind a 3rd round (or later) rookie LG.

Well we could sign Jennings like you want and maybe he'll even start a game or two before getting injured again and riding the pine. Which, in that case, we'll have wasted money on a bum player AND wind up with a rookie starting at LG anyway.

I say bring him in to compete at the very least if he fails we have a valuable O-lineman who can possibly play anywhere on the line. Though he's probably best suited for the tackle spots as not sure he has the muscle to play OC/OG.

Why not consider him as veteran depth for the right price?

                      I would

You probably won't hear anything from him for a while. He had shoulder surgery last November, the 3rd surgery on his right shoulder, which he dislocated. He does have enough time to recover, and could use a fresh start. His 49er career was a train-wreck, and while injuries dogged him I think Mike Nolan screwed him as well.

Some team will sign him closer to camp to compete on a "prove-it" type contract, because good OT are hard to find. If he gets healthy, I'd expect him to play OT, because he is a talented guy. I think he'll disappear for a while, then sign with some team right around early July.
