Cutdown time is fast approaching and the Bills face a real problem: there are 10 players woth keeping on the D-line and ideally they would keep only 9 (assume Fisher is cut):

Schobel
Office
Irons
Ahanotu
Denney
Williams
Robertson
Edwards
Price
Bannan

Schobel and Office are currently listed as starters (Ahanotu may replace Office). Williams and Robertson are in a battle for the tackle spot along side Williams (Price may take that over). Irons and Bannan show real promise - its doubtfull if they would clear waivers before being placed on the Practice Squad. Denney is rather old for a rookie, but may round into form by mid-season.

Cound/would anyone trade for one of these players?

I doubt it.

No one ever makes trades up against the final cut... why give up something you can get for free?

The Bills also need all the talent they can get - no way they trade 5th or 6th best DL player . And who would in their right mind want to trade for their 7th, 8th, or 9th best DL when he has a great chance of being cut?

And what would we get? A future 6th or 7th rd pick destined to be a practice squad player?

Didn't the Bills get Chris Watson that way? Are all 6th and 7th rounders merely practice squad players?

Watson was traded from Denver for a 4th round pick......which we got back in a Donahoe trade and used to select Brandon Spoon.

It was a 4th round pick for Watson. :D

John, I seem to remember that the Bills traded for Watson much earlier in the preseason, maybe even while training camp was going on. When teams have less of an idea of who is actually gonna be cut.

Also I think the Bills did another training camp deal with the Packers when they traded some 3rd/4th string TE (I forget his name) to the packers for their DE named Bowens (I think). Both ended up getting cut but either way both these deals were done earlier in the preseason.

That was a great trade looking back on it.

I never did understand cutting Bowens. He's no superstar, but he was better than most of the guys we had.

Is he still in the league?

we have a better shot at trading an OL.other than p.williams, who's there to trade?these guys are merely a bunch of backups for other teams.
