I was perfectly fine with the NFL's first batch of rule changes, but this one just goes too far. Citing recent scientific studies that show a reduction in violent, aggressive behavior before and after human beings engage in an embrace, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that in the 2009/2010 season, all plays that end with a tackle or other form of physical contact must be followed by an immediate hug.

Failure to hug will result in a 15-yard penalty. If a ball carrier goes out of bounds on his own, and no contact is made, he will not be required to hug himself.

Goodell spoke about the rule change yesterday.

about friggin time they did this. I've been sick and tired of this games inability to demonstrate the love that is needed to make players feel like human beings...

The only thing missing is for the fans to replace "the wave" with "the hug"

That rule would suck- sometimes I go to Redskins games and I don't want to have to hug a fat, sweaty Redskins fan wearing a plastic pig nose and a dress.

I bet he is looking at you and not wanting a hug from a drunken, *****ing, vulgar Bills fan wearing a Notre Dame hat.

I only go when I can get free tickets. My buddies get hooked up from their clients or their employers sometimes.

The only time I'm willing to pay is when the Bills are in town.

and if you tackle a New England Patriot, you must give him a mandatory reach around

you'll have to kick the ESPN announcers out of the way first.

"If you think I'm hugging Terrell Owens (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3664/), you're out of your damn mind," said approximately 800 NFL players.
