"Free agent FB Cecil Sapp will visit the Bills next week, according to FOXSports.com's Alex Marvez.

Sapp would presumably battle Xavier Omon to be Fred Jacksn's backup early in the season while Marshawn Lynch serves his suspension. At 5'11/229, Sapp isn't much of a lead blocker and has generated little interest elsewhere."


Not exactly big news, but it's the offseason.

Yeah, but it sounds like he's not big enough (5'11", 230 pounds) to be a lead blocking FB. Maybe he's more like a 3rd-down back to spell Fred Jackson while Lynch is out. Looks like he had some experience receiving from 2005-2007, but he disappeared in Houston.

He is a lead blocker and he is better than Mcyntyre, and was lead blocker for Slaton and a strong running game in Denver who would be an upgrade in my opinion
I would rather bring in one of the talented FBs in this draft in the later rds thou, luv Southerland form GA, and the kid from LSU and Cuse all would be solid as well
we missed out on Schmidt last yr
also there are better FBs available in FA still

He is a lead blocker and he is better than Mcyntyre, and was lead blocker for Slaton and a strong running game in Denver who would be an upgrade in my opinion

He didn't lead block for Slayton. Houston's starting FB is Vonta Leach. He is more RB than FB.

Sapp has always been a HB/FB-tweener, with the majority of his contributions coming on ST. He was a productive RB at Colorado State, and never even played any FB until he got to the NFL. His strength is having the versatility to back up both at RB and FB, while being a ST-contributor.

Sapp has never been and never will be a traditional lead-blocking FB. He is a tough straight-ahead runner who can carry the ball, even though he didn't do it much for Houston last year. He can fill in at FB at times, but isn't the kind of blocker who can lead a running game regularly.
