View Full Version : Playoffs Or Else For Dick And Jerry

We've reported on several occasions throughout the offseason that Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo is anxious to shed head coach Dick Jauron, and that another non-playoff year will be enough to make Angelo's wish come true.

But there could be a catch. A big one.

According to a league source, if the Bears don't qualify for the postseason, team ownership likely will fire not only Jauron, but also Angelo.

In our view, such sentiment could be an effort to force Angelo and Jauron to "play nice" in 2003. There had been a significant amount of acrimony as the draft approached between the front office and the coaching staff, in light of the coaching staff's desire to win now and the front office's goal of building for a future that likely won't include Jauron.

Case in point -- drafting quarterback Rex Grossman in the first round will do little to help the Bears make the playoffs.

So with Angelo and Jauron suddenly joined at the hip, either a new sense of teamwork and cooperation will emerge -- or the franchise will commence yet another tailspin until it's time to start from scratch all over again

Gee yeah.

Just like QB contraversies...winning games with defense and special teams, impotent offenses...horrid playcalls...
