Can we PLEASE stop defending Donte Whitner?

The guy is mediocre on the field.... everyone blames the system.

The guy tackles an opposing player 8 yards AFTER the opponent scores a TD... everyone claims he's "sticking up for the team".

The guy gets arrested, everyone blames the cops or calls it a "youthful indiscretion."

WTF? What makes this guy above scrutiny?

How many of you would blame the system if Terrence McGee was as mediocre on the field? How many of you would say it's "sticking up for the team" if Vince Wilfork tackled Lee Evans 8 yards into the endzone? How many of you would call it a "youthful indiscretion" if Ronnie Brown got tasered and arrested?

For some reason, Whitner transcends criticism around here. Maybe it's because some sportswriter called him a "hard hitter" (even though he's only made one hard hit in his career). Maybe it's because Marv drafted him. Maybe it's because he's on a United Way commercial teaching kids how to play football. But for whatever reason, this guy gets away with garbage that would be unacceptable from any other player, and it defies all logic.

Please STOP giving this guy a free pass for anything and everything he does wrong.

Whitner is terrible, and a scumbag off the field, and a he has the maturity level of a 13 year old girl (take a look at his facebook), he is much more concerned with being 'popular' and what people think of him than he is about football.

This guy posted a video of himself literally talking about having noticed that people defriended him on facebook. Are you ****ing kidding me? get a life.

I won't defend him on the arrest, but I also will not convict him until every thing is heard.

        Ha, what's there to defend?

I defended him when we originally picked him, when people were calling him a reach. And now I agree with them.

I could see defending his recent situation until the actual facts come out but not his play on the field. Actually I've not seen anyone do the latter in some time.

Why should anyone blame Whitner for where he was picked?

I'm pretty sure he's not blaming Whitner, but moreso the Bills for picking him that high. It's certainly not his fault the Bills reached.

Not blaming where he was picked, blaming the Bills for passing on Cutler or Ngata.

Him getting picked at 8th overall is the Bills mistake. And for him, getting picked so high has created expectations and levels of play that we expect. He has not met any such expectations.

I don't blame him for where he has been picked, just for not playing up to his capabilities. He makes claims and talks he and the rest of the team are ready to step up, but when push comes to shove, they can't deliver. Basically, he should keep his mouth shut if he isn't ready to step it up.

And I have no issues with what happened this past weekend. People drink, **** happens. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and the wrong color (if you don't think the police might've treated him differently being a white male, you're insane - I can tell you stories).

The only hard hit Whitner ever made is when he beat up his girlfriend at Ohio State.

he also assured us that we'd make the playoffs. How'd that one turn out?
