Bill and Jerry have not only survived the draft much to the dismay of Cowboy haters but prospered. The media grades were generally in the A- to B+ range. Pundits applauded the first 4 picks(T. Newman, Cb; A. Johnson, C; J. Witten, TE; and B. James OLB). The lower picks were considered mediocre and generally considered special teamers.

Dallas signed a crop of undrafted free agents as well with the two to watch being Tony Romo and Torrin Tucker. Romo was a stellar QB, but at smalltime Eastern Illinois. Tucker was rated from the 3rd to 7th best guard by many draft publications. He was a 3rd round value by NFLDB’s estimation. He fell because of attitude concerns and tendencies to play inconsistently but he has the necessary athleticism and skill to be a starter in the NFL.
