Maybin- 1 year wonder, if his career was the 1 year wonder he had he would probably be the number 1 DE. Not huge but has gained weight and has made it a priority.

Ayers- Mayock calls the best defensive player in the draft. Not fit in any way for the 3-4. Not great speed but a pure 4-3 DE.

Johnson- Compared to Peppers without the work ethic. Huge and finds way to the QB. Can play both 3-4 OLB or 4-3 DE but better suited for 4-3.

The idea is all are somehow there at 28. Who?

Ayers is actually pretty athletic, and may be able to play OLB in a 3-4.

But as to your question, if all three are there at 28, then definitely take Ayers. He's less of a project, and his primary negatives are lack of technique and pass rush repertoire. I'm intrigued to see what our new DL coach can do, and I'd bet that Sanders could help Ayers the most right now.

It was hypothetical so noone uses the reach idea.

Only Ayers would be available at 28.

For me the only choice of the 3 would be Maybin as he's the only one with production.

Johnson has too much of 'bust' written over him, whilst Ayers only had 3.5 sacks and we must get someone who can knock over the QB. I would take Larry English before Johnson and Ayers

I like AYERS here.
Reason why he plays in the best conference in College football.
I saw the guy play and he is a beast and a great player off the field as well.
Will be a good Football player in the NFL

Ayers doesn't sack enough - 1 sack only in 2005, and 2006, 4 in 2007, 3.5 in 2008 - we need a DE who can take down the QB
