Williams has been out of the NFL for 3 years, but wants back in:

LINK (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/nfl/stories/042309dnspowilliams.3738cd0.html)

Williams is still only 29 years old.

I just read that a bit ago. One of the biggest draft busts ever!

Living with Derrick Dockery should really help him.

Good luck, Mike. You need not apply at OBD.

He should work out for Buffalo for free. Earn some of that money the Bills gave him.

Considering the state of our OL, I say bring him back for the minimum and see what he can do. He owes us for all the money he got over his four years here.

With nothing to lose other than feeding him for a couple of days, if he could pass a physical, I'd drag him in.

God bless him. Good luck. Just don't play well in the AFCE a la Jamie Nails with the Phins. I don't think anybody can argue that the pick made sense at the time. It's unfortunate that he proved to be extremely immature, but a lot of 22 year-olds are. I was disgusted by his work ethic at the time, but I certainly don't hate the guy. At 29 he certainly has time to at least partially redeem himself. It just sucks for us that we wasted so many high picks over the last several years.

Its not a horrible idea, which would be a little different approach than the ideas of late

Yeah, I mean what do we really have to lose? We already wasted the highest pick we've ever had in over 20 years on him, and given him millions of dollars. If he really is motivated to repair his image and change peoples opinion of him, then Buffalo is the place to do it. We wouldn't even have to play him at OT where he'd get burned off the edge, we could try him at G.

*Phone rings*

DD: Hello?
MW: What up, bro?
DD: Mike? Man, what's been...like three years? What you've been up to?
MW: you know, eating... and stuff.
DD: So what's up?
MW: I want to play again. Well... for real this time.
DD: Really? Good to hear... What's the crunching noise?
MW: Huh, oh nothing. *spits chips back into bag* Yeah, I got this newfound passion for the game. I want to go all out this time... and stuff.
DD: I'm happy for you, bro. Anything I can do for you?
MW: Well I've been training really hard and it would be cool if I could come up there and train with you.
DD: No doubt!
MW: ... and move in with you.
DD: Wait, what?
MW: ... my wife too.
DD: Okay, um...I guess you two can hold up here for awhile.
MW: ... and support us.
DD: Damn, Mike. What happened?
MW: We eat a lot.
DD: Look man, we go back so let me talk to my wife and we'll see what we can do.
MW: Thanks bro, we appreciate it.

Stay away from all Texas players. Very few of them make it in the NFL. I can only name two off the top of my head that have had decent careers in recent history. Roy Williams and Derrick Johnson

Yeah, but Tony Mandarich was a complete steroid monster coming out of college, by his own admission. He got a little worried about getting busted from using steroids, so he stopped...and then he immediately got hooked shooting painkillers. He said that he didn't spend a single sober day in Green Bay. He used to carry a needle in his jockstrap (ouch) and ask to go to the bathroom in practice, where he would shoot up.

I just saw a piece on him on the tube.

I'd pick Mike Williams up as an experiment. We could bring him in and give him a chance for the vet minimum...pretty sure he was in the league for 5 years and so qualifies for it. Might actually be a good, risk-free idea that could actually pay off for us.

If it doesn't work out, we could cut him...no problem. We gotta try something because we are hurting on the line right now.

We have nothing to lose. Give him a shot at RT or G. Maybe he is more mature and ready to apply the talent we used the 4th overall on.

Man, the fact that him and Dockery are working out together pisses me off.

Those two represent the biggest waste of money and roster spots over the last 20 years of this franchise.

I bet they are there laughing about how rich they are in spite of the fact that neither of them can play.

And Williams, good choice of a guy to work out with...A guy who, just like you, can't reach his potential.

TheGhostofJimKelly

Sounds like he worked out more in that day than he did in four years in Buffalo. And no mike, it wasn't the coaching changes buddy.

im totally ok with that. he actually played well at times but once the injuries started the desire left and he sucked. we have nothing to lose.

It would be one of the great stories ever.

But, there are a few things in the link that are really irritating, though I discount them based on not really taking anything serious in these types of media reports.

In other words, whoever was doing this report seemingly needs to make excuses for the guy and there are none.

He didn't need to feel the pressure of saving the franchise, and he didn't need to collapse under the scenario of coaching changes, though both of those are offered as subtle excuses.

What he needed to do was achieve at 80% of his capability, and he didn't come close, coaching changes and franchise pressure aside.

I note that the reporter did not mention the sit out due to a "sore eyes" thing after a pre-game fireworks thing that was reported on this site a few weeks ago.

Grow up Mike, and there may be room.

Ha... what a loser. I especially love this line:

"And maybe, he said, thinking he had to carry the hopes and dreams of a franchise on his large but relatively young 22-year-old back had been a bit overwhelming."

Uhhhh... I don't know about you guys but I didn't expect him to be the savior of the Bills. He's a freaking lineman for Pete's sake! All I expected was a solid guy to anchor his side of the line.
