Thats a huge question mark pick IMO.

We just didnt need a CB and certainly not this early.

Epic fail for the Buffalo Bills when they have such great players available. Just got a call from a man at the table and he is even at a loss for words. It appears the Bills were really looking into either Barwin, Brown or Cook and this came out of left field like a shot.

Noone knows what happened here. We are still in shock at the office. Byrd wasn't even on the radar 5 minutes ago.

Turns out they absolutely love his return skills and that tipped the decision to his favor.

Why take Cook, Brown, Johnson, Beatty, Loadholt, or Casey when you can pick Byrd, when we already have McGee, McKelvin, Florence, Youboty, and Corner?

BuffaloRanger
04-25-2009, 07:21 PM
Bills aren't good enough to be selecting for best player available.

How about Best player available in a position of NEED!

BuffaloRanger

Parrish will be traded for a 6th so Ralph can save money. Then they justify spending a 2nd rd pick to replace a PR they traded for a 6th rdr. Awesome!

the pick was made because McGee wont be back next year.... plus we don't need any OT now since we selected Wood.. he will be our starting guard, then we move chambers to RT...

I was surprised by this pick. I like the kid, but never thought we would pick him. He is a very physical corner and is very good at holding WR's up at the line. He excels in redzone coverage and has 17 picks in 3 years. Having said that, his speed is a question mark and most fans won't like the pick because he doesn't fit a need and/or they never heard of him.

One of the posts in this thread mentioned that it wasn't a "need" pick, and that's probably one reason why so many were against it.
Thing is, it was very much a need pick. Can anyone remember the last time a Bills safety played like Byrd has?

According to your posts yesterday, the INTs were all gifts. And that it was all due to the bad QBs. So now you are giving credit to Byrd for making the plays? Nighthawk, what is it, great job by Byrd or gifts

BuffaloBlitz83

Byrd is an animal! The most underrated play he made yesterday was that shoestring tackle on Steve Smith after the deep catch. That was a TD without the tackle.

Byrd himself said at least one of them was because of a bad pass.
Even with that the case, he still shows good awareness, positioning and heads-up reaction for a rookie, not to mention hands.

Bad passes or not, good football players seem to always be around the ball.

You don't get 5 interceptions in 3 games by being lucky.

Byrd certainly has better hands.

Ask the coaches...if memory serves he didn't even get a chance during the preseason.

Ask the coaches...if memory serves he didn't even get a chance during the preseason.

They've already got a 1,000,000 returners on the team.

But I'd guess the main reason is that he missed so much time (all spring OTA's, minicamps, and two weeks of training camp with the injury) that they wanted him to concentrate on learning how to be a safety. He was switching positions, after all, in addition to making the transition from college to pros.

I don't remember if it was preseason or TC but I do remember he did get a day or two of reps with the return team.
