Round 7 should be a big body at DT or at FB. Even if we still attest that we don't use a FB often, drafting one here could mean another day 1 starter.

Any DE drafted at round 7 IMO won't beat out Bryan and same case at OT/Bell. We need another big guy so DT and FB make the most sense IMO. Take your best UDFA prospect at either of those positions.

Yeah, it looks like you're right. I based my initial estimate on a report that said his weight is 276 lbs. Other sites have him at about 293. He could be similar to Spencer Johnson - I wouldn't be surprised if he's asked to lose a little weight and compete at LDE.

McCall played a blocking tight end for Alabama. I guessing the Bills may have visions of converting him to a fulback. With that kind of size he would be like a road grader coming at you, or a Sherman tank.

Gerald Washington is the other defensive lineman of the Trojans, who is eligible to be drafted. Washington is an interesting prospect. The former tight-end switched to the defensive end position a couple seasons ago, and, while he rarely played and never did much on the field, is one of those physical specimens (6’6,” 255 lbs) that could translate to the next level. If Antonio Gates can have success at the pro level, why can't Gerald Washington? While it is doubtful that Washington will be drafted, don’t be surprised if a team takes a flyer on him and picks him up as an undrafted free-agent.

http://www.examiner.com/x-5385-USC-Trojans-Examiner~y2009m3d13-NFL-Draft-impact-USC-best-of-the-rest

Tatonka
04-27-2009, 09:00 AM
they also mention one of our late picks in that article.

From the defensive backfield, Trojans CB Cary Harris is one player to watch closely. Starting the last two seasons at cornerback for the Trojans, Harris has the good size (6’0,” 187 lbs) and the instincts to be a decent corner at the next level. After a senior season in which he posted 38 tackles (4 tackles for a loss), 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 6 passes broken up, as well as receiving a 2008 All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention, Harris has done enough to get drafted into the NFL.

Where he will go is the big question? Harris’ time of 4.66 seconds in the 40 yard drill at the combine was not all that impressive, but he has done enough over the past two years to garner some interest. A 5th round projection for Cary Harris would not be unreasonable.

Here's some info on OT Joel Bell from nfldraftcountdown:

Strengths:
Excellent size with a large frame...Long arms and big hands...Terrific athlete...Nimble feet...Decent strength...Mobile with a lot of range...A great motor...Hard worker...Team Leader...Experienced...Has upside.

Weaknesses:
Did not face top competition...Isn't real powerful...Doesn't always play with proper leverage...Doesn't get a great push in the run game...Not very stout at the point...Needs technique work...Durability concerns ?

Notes:
Was a three-year starter for the Paladins...Parents are missionaries and moved to Egypt in 1990 then to Croatia in 1993 before returning to the United States alone in 2001...Also participated in track and field in college...Redshirted in 2004...Saw action in 8 games with one start in 2005...Started all 12 games and was named 2nd Team All-SoCon in 2006...Started 11 games at left tackle and was a consensus 1st Team All-SoCon selection...Concensus 1st Team All-SoCon again as a senior and also garnered FCS All-American honors..Small school sleeper who isn't a finished product but definitely has some exciting physical tools.

Thank goodness that he won't be making the team. All you have to do is look at the Rose Bowl this past year to see how awful the PSU secondary was. Although I guess he'd be a perfect fit for the Bills - all USC did was throw short outs, and PSU never stopped them because they never even attempted to press.

There's several other PSU players I wish they had gotten, like Gerald Cadogan, Rich Ohrnberger, Deon Butler, etc. None of the secondary from PSU is worth a roster spot.

But Sargeant was on NFLN Prime U with Deion Sanders...lol

Looks like Azusa Pacific WR Jon Davis (6'3", 215) is coming into the rookie minicamp for a tryout. He's a good story, and I wouldn't mind having someone like him on the PS. We could use a WR in 2010 (Owens, possibly Reed and Parrish gone).

"Overview: VERY intriguing small-school prospect
Strengths: Great size and size-speed ratio. Dominant junior campaign. Shows good hands and body control.
Weaknesses: Disappointing senior season. Did his damage against a very low level of competition. Didn't return punts or kicks."

In his junior year, he had 73 receptions, 1258 yards and 21 TD's. His senior year, had 49 receptions for 605 yards and 5 TD's.

Unconfirmed, but it sounds like we also brought in Nick Marshman, from VT. I think his measurables are 6'5" and about 345 pounds, at OG. Big guy.

Is it just me or are they really overloading on the OL-men in camp? We've got like 20 OL players.

Man, this is a good highlight video of the DB Tyrrell Herbert:

It's only a highlight video, so take it with a grain of salt. But the guy looks like he's got good instincts and very good closing speed.

I think my favorite part in that video was around 4:16, where he goes to tackle a guy on a screen pass, and takes out two linemen AND the ball carrier at the same time. Hahaha

He honestly looks pretty good, and quite a ballhawk. I love how we're bringing in guys who might actually make a difference in the secondary by hauling in INT's.
