The Williamses want to question the Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) about StarCaps and whether team officials advised players about the weight-loss product, which was contaminated with a prescription drug that can be used to mask steroids. Peter Ginsberg, the attorney representing the Williamses in their federal lawsuit against the NFL (http://www.kffl.com/team/77/nfl), said during a hearing last week that StarCaps were "freely distributed" in the Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) locker room and that "a number" of players used StarCaps.

It's really strange that a number of Bills' players didn't test positive for whatever alleged banned substance is in StarCaps. Perhaps the poor, innocent Williams boys were ingesting other substances as well.

And "everyone else was doing it" has never proven to be a real strong defense. Everyone else didn't get caught.

I don't understand Kevin never played for the Bills and Pat has played here in a while. How is this the Bills fault?

I thought they were just cited for using a masking agent.

it doesn't say the team gave them the drugs. It says they were distributed in the locker room and their case is the team is responsible to educate the players that the dietary pill contained a banned substance.

this case is about the chain of information breaking down and the players are asserting the team didn't meet their responsibility so the fault is being placed wrongly.

OK, why aren't a number of Bills' players facing suspension for using a masking agent?

The masking agent is still a banned substance.

I agree with Jan - if it was in such abundant supply in Buffalo's locker room, then why hasn't anyone else tested positive for it?

I'm wondering if this was the situation: back when Pat Williams was on the team, this StarCaps was distributed freely. However, after Pat Williams went to the Vikings, the NFL started banning this substance and Pat Williams just never realized the substance (the masking agent) was in StarCaps. I'd have to imagine that at that point, the Bills were not distributing them freely, after it was banned.

That's the only logical path of action to me, considering no known Bills players were involved with the StarCaps thing.

This is a bunch of bull... All Pat is attempting to due is place blame on this franchise.

because testing is random and everyone isn't necessarily tested.

possible, but more likely, especially if they've supposedly been handing this substance out for 5 years, is that the Bills either A) stopped when it became illegal or B) never did at all

I'm not a lawyer and don't know all the details but I expect this whole situation is part of the process of determining in a legal sense where the blame lies and perhaps some of it does lie with the franchise. It was happening in their locker room for example. Even if it was just players passing the substance around there is a valid arguement that the team that owns the locker room is responsible to know what is going on. Since the NFL is a representative of the team (people tend to forget that--and the players union is the representative of the player) then the team is responsible to bring the knowledge of the NFL to the player especially considering the constraints and the culture of these organizations. It's not far fetched that someone could be handed something and assume it's OK to take since it's being distributed there...and then find out it's not and then the question becomes if it's OK for them to play dumb.

or that it wasn't the organization itself it was another player or group of players who have also moved on. Like I said above though that doesn't necessarily admonish the organization of responsibility.
